Hello, a new Cubase 14 user here, coming from Cakewalk/Sonar…
I’ve got the problem that MIDI doesn’t work in Cubase when I first start it after booting the PC. I’ve accidentally found a workaround by closing Cubase, starting/closing MIDI-OX and then opening Cubase again. After this, MIDI works in Cubase but that’s not really what I want to do every time. Seems that something is blocking MIDI in Cubase first but I can’t see what it is. I’ve got a Focusrite audio interface with a MIDI port and various USB-MIDI devices. They all show up and are activated in the Studio settings in Cubase but there’s no sound. Any ideas what could cause this? Thanks a lot in advance!
Can you do a screenshot of the MIDI setup window?
In Studio Setup under MIDI Port Setup, can you try the Monitor for one of your ports?
Enter the Monitor and send some MIDI data on the corresponding port. Please post a screenshot of the result.
How long have those been there?
Since v13 I think.
I’ve still been telling folks to create a test Track with a MIDI Monitor on it…
This will be easier. At least it wasn’t Cubase 10.
There is a word in German called “Vorführeffekt” - you try hard to get something to work and don’t succeed, but as soon as you ask somebody for help, it will work… This is what just happened - I set up everything exactly in the same way as the times before to take the screenshots but now MIDI works after the first start of Cubase! Let’s see if this is just temporary - if the problem doesn’t come back, I’ll delete my post. Thanks to all for your replies for now!
Yes, the demonstration effect… always on your doorstep when not needed
Good luck!
The problem has appeared again and I think I’ve found out what’s wrong. I just don’t have a solution…
In fact I have MIDI input/output on startup of Cubase but the problem is that Windows seems to rearrange the order of the MIDI ports randomly whenever I start the PC. I have some USB-MIDI devices (see screenshot) and when I load a saved project into Cubase after a restart of the PC, the port names are routed to other ports. For example, today the input of the MidiKey-49 was on the Focusrite USB-MIDI input in Cubase, the Focusrite USB-MIDI output was actually the Solina, the MS-5 output was on the Focusrite and so on… It seems that MidiOX brings the ports back to order, so I will use this workaround for the time being but I’m really interested in finding a better solution… So if you have an idea, please let me know - thanks a lot!
