Hi everyone,
I’m new to this forum, albeit Ive used Cubase since Atari days and when I moved onto mac I started using Logic and for a while used both until Cubase 9.5. Recent few years workload forced me to use mostly Logic, well, long enough to need to remind myself how to use Cubase like I used to…
I have just updated to Cubase pro 14 and while trying to set everything up I have gotten stuck with ‘render in place’ with my external synths.
I have Audient evo 16 and my korg modwave module is plugged into ch’s 5&6, I have set it up as an external instrument and opened it as VST track (external instrument) in my arrangement window.
I have followed and double-checked this with several tutorials just to make sure and it all works fine.
However, in every tutorial once the setting up of the ext inst in audio connections is done the presenter moves immediately onto ‘render in place’ feature and the render happens.
Unfortunately, in my case the recording is empty. I have tried everything and even simple exporting audio comes up with empty recording. I have even tried to set a bus in audio connections Inputs as my synth inputs ch’s 5&6 and then open an audio track routed to that bus and then just simply record of my synth track and still my recording comes empty.
I’m out of options yet suspect it could be something simple I’ve omitted in my basic ins and outs set up…
Unless I’m mistaken, because you’re using external hardware, render has to be real time.
Hi ATC,
Thanks for your reply, that has all been set up as well, I have gone to Audio mixdown and ticked ‘Real time’ render box
Hi ATC,

I’m clearly a newbie struggling with correct way to reply..
No problem.
Just to be sure, when you perform the mixdown, is the modwave receiving midi and producing sound (i.e. if you plug in headphones directly to the modwave, do you hear what you should hear?)
Can you provide any screenshots of your audio connections and channel strip settings?
No problem, Here is the snapshot of my main arrangement window with my modwave VST track and a MIDI note is playing fine, I have checked this with my modwave librarian too and I can change presets on my modwave through Cubase on the track inspector which confirms the connection and the set up
I tried to upload more snapshots but since I am new to the forum I’m only allowd to upload one snapshot per post so I’ll upload couple more in separate replies
and inputs, tho I am not sure this is set correctly, this is where my memory fails me
Obviously I was attempting to set the bus for my modwave inputs …but then again I have set that up in external instruments so not sure
Can you record anything at all into Cubase14?
If not this will probably be your mac microphone privacy settings.
I haven’t tried yet but just checked it and that was it!
Thank you ever so much Grim!
I suspected it was something of a kind, I have dealt with so many similar issues today and was starting to lose faith!
