Cubase 14 pro won't install (or Download assistant don't work)

Hi
I just bought Cubase pro 14, and I’ve updated my Download manager to install it. But when I try to start the download of Cubase, it just “thinks” for 10 minutes, and then I get an error that since it used 10 minutes without installing, the installation failed. Is there something wrong with the Download Assistant?

Ah, didn’t read the whole error message. It says it downloaded the file and I can install it manually. Will try that to see if that fixes it.

Yes. Use the website.

I tried to install it manually with the file the Download assistant downloaded but wouldn’t install, but it’s been stuck on this point for over an hour:

Any tips?

Download “Assistant” should look for a new job.

Not sure about Windows, but if you’re on a Mac… There is a little dropdown icon to the far right in the DA next to the name of the program you downloaded (that fails to install). If you click that, there’s an option to take you to the download folder. So you can easily and quickly get to the installer and run it manually.

Don’t bother trying to fix Download Assistant. If you get it working, it’ll be short lived and break next update. Not sure what the frequent updates to it do… but they sure as hell don’t help it install anything. Steinberg should borrow the coders from any of the dozens of companies that have working software managers and pay them to create something that functions properly. Fortunately, Cubase itself is more reliable.

*queue someone chiming in to say “it works for me” in 3… 2…

You’ve probably got a popup hidden in the background

I bought the upgrade to C14 and tried the Download Assistant. Steinberg must get rid of this totally useless so-called ‘Assistant’ and either launch a replacement or tell customers to download the installer from the website. Probably the worst software I’ve come across in music production.

Manual installation worked. Thanks for your help

Strangely, as many who complain that it’s useless, (my self included), there are as many say it’s just dandy and works fine.

Looking at my own history with the SDA and two independent systems and locations: It is hard to detect a specific failure/error pattern after countless attempts to fix it. By now, I give up as soon as the SDA doesn’t work and try again another day. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. If I don’t want to wait I go for manual downloads.
Of couse, one of the reasons why the SDA hasn’t been fixed yet is this lack of predictability and the multitude of possible reasons behind it. Moreover, one need to take into account the complex reference system of Steinberg products which has its roots in the 1990s.
Nonetheless. As much as I understand that it’s not an easy task - it must be done. Better sooner than later.

It worked on my 9 year old master computer Win 10 until a year ago or so.
A week ago I got a new computer, completely clean. Win 11 Pro.
The first thing I installed was the Steinberg Download Assistant. Guess what? It did not work. It fails whatever I do, whatever component it asks me to manually install.
Continuing using manual method then.
