Cubase 14 project files won't load into cubase 12

Hi! transferring qbase 14 project to friend who has 12 x.x and gets an error msge that this is not a cubase file. Tried it on my cubase 12 and get the same error message, never had this type of problem before going from latest version to older versions. Is Cubase 12 now incompatible with 14?

Thanks
JM

There’s a section about compatibility in the version 14 release notes:

Bugger!

Thanks mate!

it may be a little late for your current projects now, but if I read those release notes correctly, collaboration across older versions might still work, when the original Cubase project is originally created with the older Cubase versions?

I ended up having to copy all my files in q14 to q12 and saving the project ended up working ok. Long way to do it but it works.

Hello Roofus, same problem here, what do you mean for “copying all my files in q14 to 12” ? Thank you so much, we are finishing the production of an album and with the last song we have this problem :frowning:
Thank you in advance for any help

Anyone has found any other workaround to open in C12 a project made in C14?

I don’t think that there’s a possibility to open a C14 project in C12 and earlier versions.
If you want to make sure that you keep the downward compatabiliy in between versions create the project file in C12 and work with it in C14. That should work.
In your case you have to export your C14 tracks and create a new project in C12 in order to work with C12. Now, you can work with that new project in both C12 and C14.

Thank you so much, solved thanks to your advice!!!
We exported all the tracks from C14 by File\Export Selected Tracks, selecting all the tracks and including everything in the export panel, and we are able to easily reopen all in C12 by File\Import Track Archive. All was opened exactly, midi and audio tracks, automations, mixer settings, plugin, instruments, colors, etc. the only missing thing was the bpm in the tempo tracks we set by hand fastly.
(I written all for the benefit of others having the same problem).

We will try the other your suggestion, to start the project in c12 , for future projects if I will have to front the same situation.

Thanks again Reco29, you make may day !

…and it’s perfect also your second solution: creating a project in C12, and then working on it in C14 makes it usable in both C12 and C14 here!
Thanks again
