If you’re using Cubase 14 with a 4k monitor and have Windows 11, you might run into an issue where a VST UI window will continually get scaled larger and larger upon each consecutive Edit Instrument window launch if:
- Windows screen scaling is set to 200%
- Cubase HiDPI application scaling is set to -50%
One workaround is to use the system setting for application scaling and just live with it, however, this will not leave you much screen real estate for more than 8 tracks or so in Cubase.
Another attempt at a workaround is to use less than 200% for the Windows 11 display scaling (say 150%), but this will affect your OS UI, other programs, as well as the appearance of older VSTs, which will look fuzzy unless a system setting of 200% is used.
I’ve noticed it in Cherry audio plugins and random others as well (such as Thorn). My best guess is that it’s some sort of a DAW zoom scale value that’s being reported to the plugin that keeps getting accidentally incremented in the Cubase code, because I’ve noticed that the UI zoom setting inside of the VSTs is actually increasing for each UI launch inside of Cubase. Other DAWs (Bitwig, Reaper) don’t seem to have this issue.
Any guesses from the Steinberg dev folks as to the root cause?
