Sorry if this has been asked about already, but before I upgrade I’m wondering about this specific change:
Moving a track out of a Folder track with Group Channel functionality now keeps its dedicated routing destination intact.
So I actually thought this was by design and love how it currently works - being able to move tracks in and out of folder group channels and have them automatically update their own routing relative to the parent group/folder I’ve organized them in.
There are of course scenarios where I may not want this, but I would rather manually change the routing in the MixConsole after the fact in those scenarios. But 90% of the time when I drag a track under a folder group channel, I want it to inherit that group routing.
examples: Let’s say I have a stray percussion track routed to Stereo Out - if I drag it under my drums & perc folder, I want it to now be routed into that new group. I don’t want to have to manually do this every time. Conversely let’s say I record a synth part in my synth pads folder/group, but it ends up being more of a bass than a pad – I’d like to drag that to my bass folder/group and have it update automatically.
Is there a preference to toggle this behavior? Also please advise if I’m misunderstanding the fix in the update.
I think this is the case. The fix concerns tracks moved out of the folder while you seem to want to move tracks into the folder. The latter still leads to automatic routing to the folder’s group channel.
For me it’s both ways (into or out of a folder). A few scenarios may occur when I’m writing:
an idea which starts from a percussion or synth evolves into a sound effect, so I want to move it over to my SFX folder/group.
or an idea which began on a synth I may typically use for leads ends up sounding cool transposed down to become a bass, so I’d like to move it over to my bass folder/group.
If I’m understanding correctly, it sounds like if I were to move that synth from the leads group folder to my bass folder, the routing would still be going into the leads, even though I moved it out? Or would it inherit the routing of the new folder its been dropped into?
Like I said I thought this was by design and I actually love this behavior because I can just move tracks into folders and let routing take care of itself, freeing me to stay in the creative zone and not have to get sidetracked by manual routing. And of course I know how to manually adjust it in the few scenarios where I don’t want this.
Great, it sounds like maybe it’s fine as long as it’s moved into another folder group.
I’d been reticent to find out for myself because previously I found it’s hard to downgrade versions. However I just searched my drive and I still have the 15.0.21 installer just in case, so I’ll give it a try.
@Johnny_Moneto ok so I ran the update and tested a project moving things in and out of folder group channels. I also don’t understand what the fix must have changed because I can confirm the behavior is exactly as it was before (which I’m happy about). Hopefully you can understand my concern based on the wording in the release notes.
I did experiment that if I’m in a folder group and route it to another one manually, and then drag it out to normal folder (not a group channel), it seems to maintain the connection - but only if I’ve manually set the routing first. This doesn’t really reflect something I would do very often but I’m guessing maybe that wasn’t working before for some folks.
Hi there - thank you for the update. I was wondering if I’m missing a checked preference. What was amazingly useful was in the previous version, when you added any track type within a folder, that track’s output automatically routed to the folder it was nested within if it was a group folder. Is there any way to restore this functionality in the preferences? It was incredibly helpful for workflow when wanting to add new instruments into a certain group folder but preserve the correct routing of that group folder. Many thanks in advance for any help you can offer!
I couldn’t see the difference at first either, but if I’m not mistaken, it specifically affects the ‘Undo’ behavior. Before this update, if you moved a track into a Folder-Group and then immediately hit Undo (or dragged it right back out), Cubase would forget its original custom routing and reset it to the Stereo Out.
It Is a bit of a con this Tonalic as we are given the Essential version with not a lot of choices. You cannot buy full version only rent It for £200 plus a year
That’s a complaint best leveled at Celemony as they’re the ones doing the licensing.
I’d like to think they’re using subscription licensing so that they can, based on sales volumes, properly compensate the artists who contribute to the content, but I don’t know that for sure.
I can confirm that the Q-LINK issue is still not fixed. Selecting multiple channels in the Mix Console, hold SHIFT + OPTION to trigger Q-Link, then release SHIFT, and then click on the bypass icon of an insert. As a result, it would deactivate all the same inserts on the selected channels. Now, it only deactivates the first one. Bypass still works fine, but deactivate doesn’t work anymore.
This issue was acknowledge by your support team 5 months ago, saying the dev team knew about it and a potential fix was maybe coming in 15.0.20. Do you have an ETA? It is seriously impeding a current project with over 100 orchestral tracks. So much so that I had to revert to Cubase 14.
Q-link for changing sends values (double click, write a value, enter) also doesn’t work anymore. I feel like over time, less and less options work in Q-link mode.
qlink also doesnt work for sometime properly in the project window, when you for example, select a couple of audio tracks, to change the input or output of all the tracks and press the hotkeys for qlink, doesnt do it, but this still works in the mixer window when you manually enable qlink button from the mixer window
It was ever possible? Changing routing of multiple tracks is the only reason why I’m opening the mixer window. I would love to have it in the project window.
