Cubase 15.0.30 - Track ID and order not updating/syncing with MixConsole when reordering tracks

Hi everyone,

I am experiencing a very unusual and frustrating issue with a specific project in Cubase 15.0.30.

When I try to reorder tracks within the Project Window by dragging them to a new position (above or below other tracks), their Track ID number remains unchanged. As a result, this anomalous behavior is reflected in the MixConsole, where the visual order of the tracks does not update and fails to match the Project Window, making mixing very chaotic.

I have attached a short video to clearly demonstrate the issue:

Before posting here, I already tried several troubleshooting steps to isolate and fix the problem, unfortunately with no success:

  1. MixConsole Sync: I verified and toggled the synchronization option between the MixConsole and the Project Window, but the console completely ignores any track movement.

  2. Project Backup: I tried using the “Backup Project” function to a brand new folder.

My system is fully updated to the latest release (Cubase 15.0.30). Is anyone else experiencing this? Do you have any suggestions for hidden settings or other “resync” workarounds I could try to fix this without having to rebuild the entire project from scratch?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!

Wow, this looks strange…
Can you try to restart Cubase with preferences temporarily disabled (hold down Cmd/Ctrl + Alt/Option + Shift right after launching Cubase)?

Tried it but it doesn’t solve the problem.

If it wasn’t just this specific project it would surely look like corrupted preferences.
Does this affect the project in any way other than being visually confusing? Having a backup was a good idea - just in case.

The problem is with this specific project and is confusing the MixConsole workflow.
I don’t think it’s a matter of corrupted preferences. Perhaps the project file is corrupted, and I’m wondering how that could have happened. In any case, a track ID reordering feature would be welcome in future updates.

You are referring to an additional track ID order reset since this is done automatically, right?
In this case, a feature request would need more context like OS, graphic card & driver etc. Very important - has someone else experienced something like that?

It would irritate me, too, to say the least. Not knowing if that’s just a glitch or if it’s getting worse in the middle of an ongoing project is not ideal…

Yes, a sort of function to apply in case something similar happens.

In my specific case, there were about ten tracks whose IDs wouldn’t change when moved up or down in the project window’s tracklist, and I solved the problem by creating new tracks, copying clips and automations from the problematic ones, and then deleting them.

I hope the problem doesn’t recur in the future on more complex projects, though.

The annoying thing is that you never know what the error/bug might be caused by.

First of all, good to know that you found a way to get rid of that odd behaviour.

Yeah, we’ve all been there. Something strange happening all of a sudden and you have no idea where it’s coming from. I guess that’s just the way it is with apps as complex as Cubendo. Happens in other apps as well.
Whenever I experience unexpected behaviour like that I try to fix it with simple on-board resources and try to forget about it afterwards. So far, they’ve never come back to bite me… Knock on wood!
