Cubase 15 available now

Not the person you asked - but I’ve done some quick trials on Mac and I can’t see any significant performance increase.

I’m sorry, but what exactly are you referring to here?

I think this update depends on why you use Cubase.

If you’re producing Pop, Hip Hop, EDM, etc. then this update is actually good.

  • More Modulators for Sound Design, etc.
  • Improvements to Pattern Editor will be welcome by this market segment.
  • The Groove Agent SE 6 update is actually nice (bugs notwithstanding).
    • However, it’s weird they didn’t release Groove Agent 6 at the same time.
    • I’m not sure how updating this would affect products like Dorico (which use this virtual instrument). Would it break anything?
    • Honestly, at this point I think Groove Agent 5/6 should just be a stock instrument.
  • Stem Separation Directly in the DAW is welcome for people who sample.
    • Most other DAWs are going this route vs. depending on external software via ARA2, etc.
    • Also, IME, SpectraLayers has been really buggy … especially with certain ASIO drivers, etc. I stopped updating it as I was basically paying for bug fixes and getting regressions in the package.
  • Automation Last-Touched is nice for everyone (General Workflow Improvement)
  • New Kits and FX are fine. Same with Sample Packs… par for the course with any Cubase Pro release.
  • OmniVocal is find for sketching out ideas and creating reference tracks. Don’t see what the issue with this is. The hyperbole surrounding it is off the charts.
    • Some people may just want to write and produce music and put a generic singing voice on top of it. That’s fine. They shouldn’t be penalized for not being able to afford to pay a singer to sing a couple of verses. I know that sounds harsh… but… tough sh_t.
  • Sample Hot Swap is actually quite nice. Reminds me of ACID Pro. Every DAW should have this feature, IMO.
  • DAWproject improvements are nice.

IMO, the people who get the least out of this are the engineering types. I think Cubase is well featured there, but there are some QoL features (like Routing Folders) that really should have been added. It’s really had to go back to Cubase after using a feature like this in Logic Pro, Pro Tools or Studio One.

Composers get the new Expression Maps Editor and some nice Score Editor improvements. They’ve been wailing for the Expression Map Editor update for a decade, Lol. Congratulations.

But I think the latter two groups aren’t really the focus of the more recent updates. Steinberg is really trying to catch up the DAW for the market segments that seem to be driving the music industry, these days. I know that’s a polarizing take, and people have strong opinions on how valid certain segments are to them… but… that won’t change the world we live in.

This update looks good to the types of people who may have thought about leaving to competitors like Bitwig Studio or Ableton Live.

I agree with others that Cubase IC Pro needs an update, STAT.

Not sure about the new synth thing. IMO, Steinberg doesn’t do sound libraries well… and their stuff is always “throwback” or “cinematic,” neither of which I’m really into, these days. Would rather get a Play Series library from Native Instruments.

Im on Windows 11. After checking my biggest sessions I must admit that this performance upgrade I observe is not as significant , but still - the C15 seems to be more stable (less dropouts) and peorformance peaks.

All DAW software used to be 3x that price decades ago, so it’s sad that you missed the train and I feel sorry for you, but on the other hand it’s still affordable right?

Ok thanks for the reply, pretty frustrating. Thanks

Pass. First time in more that 10 years that I thought the juice wasn’t worth the squeeze.

100% to this.

“cross device service.exe” is one such example which completely kills DAW performance and causes no end of cracks/pops/excessive CPU usage.

Oh FFS!!! Still no Flac file compatibility in sampler tracks or Groove Agent?

LOL, I switched from VST24/32 (which cost almost $700 new) to Logic Platinum back in 2001, and paid about $600, with a student/EDU discount heh. There wasn’t even a cheaper ‘crossgrade’ option back then hah.

Please, could you prioritize fixing the bugs in version 14 first? I really appreciate your support and all the hard work!

OK so I have Cubase 15 Pro installed now. Only been exploring things for a little more than an hour. But one MASSIVE WIN for me": My PC is Windows 10 22H2, with an Intel i5 CPU, and the embedded Intel 4600 GPU. The F8 Video Player used to work back in v 10 and v11, but I think v12, v13 and v14 it did not work. Looking back over the forum myself and others reported the video player did not work with an Intel embedded GPU.
Anyway, the good news: in V15 its working again. Not that I’ve used it much yet. My point: assuming it works solid, the video player working again is worth the V15 upgrade.

But sadly, the midi controller surface still does not seem to like my Arturia Keylab 88 MKII. More poking around needed before I start flame wars on that. Something for another day.

Nice one Mr berg !

I don’t feel so bad about skipping this ‘update (not an upgrade… very sneaky sorts. My first experience with steinberg. I purchased C14 three weeks before free upgrade cut-off.)

I’ve purchased C15 just under a year before the free C16 upgrade cut-off.

What performance update are you talking about here? Are you on Win or Apple OS?

Best,

Magnus

I have an instance of UVI Falcon, Roland Cloud Juno, Roland Cloud Jupiter 8 and U-HE Repro 5. My copy of Reaper would not do better than C15 is doing here.

I then added an instance of Softube’s Model 77 which is very heavy on the CPU. Used to be very unkind to Studio One. Again Cubase 15 handles it like Reaper.

Very pleased with C15 on Windows 11.

Now show Performance meter with same project and settings against Cubase 14. Users can only determine any performance improvements against what they were previously…..cheers

Cubase 15 released with Broken Dolby Atmos? Now there need to be fixes not only for C15 but also for the latest maintenance releases for Nuendo14 and Cubase14

Uninstalled 14 so can’t. With the new 14 update I found it to be pretty equal though. I had no issues with the update. But my point here was i’m getting reaper results with regards to the CPU usage on the windows platform.
