That’s probably what studio owners said when it became clear that DAWs were getting into the hands of the great unwashed ![]()
And yet no changelog of the changes from 14 to 15, which would be much more usable from the perspective of a person who already owns Cubase to consider is the upgrade is worth paying for.
Remember, they dropped .5 updates so numbers are just a post it note, not a barometer so you could be absolutely correct. Anyone who follows chip making understands the tik-tok release method which seems to be the new way. Chipmakers, Phones so now software.
That said, still on 13. When I tried out 14 demo it was hot garbage, so much that my C13 install got convoluted and absolutely killed any workflow so I uninstalled and held out.
I’d rather update “.5 to .5” (tok) because the initial “tik” releases always have more bugs from all the new conflicts and implementations and the tok releases usually attend to the fixes.
This definitely feels like a tok….
because when they initially released 14, it absolutely sucked tik. ![]()
Every user is going to have different feelings.
You may not care for Omnivocal. Others value this addition highly as opposed to paying hundreds more for a similar 3rd party plug. You see, it’s not “creepy” for me. If I wanted a vocalist for any DEMO, which is what I regularly do, I often paid hundreds $$$ via Vocalizr. Now, I can quickly do it myself, and save money. Again, for me it’s just a demo. Eventually, in the hands of the studio, a talented unique vocalist takes over.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Omnivocal turns into a paid plug like Groove Agent or Halion.
Others are praising the improvements of Expression Maps. There are lots of professionals working in film here.
Just these 2 things are huge for me.
And, well… even better - you can put it through its paces exactly as you desire on your own actual machine, on your own (duplicate first.!) actual projects.
No, that’s what was said when $75000 tape recorders started finding their way into the grubby hands of the masses for $8000….and then $4000….and then….
At that point, the truly smart studio owners moved into the obvious future cash-cow line of work…..software programming. Or…opening a vhs video rental store

… like the Cubase 15 Release Notes, a link to which is actually in the announcement? ![]()
What is this, the “Let’s run it down first, then look at it later” thread?
I was going to wait to update until I saw the new track splitting feature.
I’ve been using Izotope for this a bunch usually just for creating split guide tracks from demos or remakes of cover songs.
Do you mean “stem separation”? It’s also blazingly faster than RX.
Installed hours ago and it surprised me.
The new improvements (starting just from the hub) are quite cool, they worth the release and their price. I’m actually happy with the useful improvements that came along this new release. ![]()
The first, what, 35 years of DAW evolution has spoiled us for what the next 35 years is going to be like - mostly incremental improvements. Cubase will have to become an AI DAW and do a lot of stuff automagically for it to feel like a major update.
NO!!! NO NO…..
Hell, version 14 still doesn’t function correctly.
I paid for the upgrade for 14 but still use 13 because of the bugs and decreased functioality of 14.
And now, one year later, another ‘Paid’ Upgrade, NO!!!
This has officially acheived stupid and mercenary.
Stop the game playing wordsmanship and call this what it is, an annual Subscription fee.
When you get 14 working right, drop me a line. Nevermind. That’s clearly not the motivatiing goal of Steinberg.
Then maybe you should open your mouth and make a post about your issues so folks can take a look and maybe figure it out? Your last post on here was a reply over a year ago complaining about graphics in Cubase 13 but Cubase 14 doesn’t ‘function correctly’?
Have you even bothered asking for help yet?
If only I could leave a dislike to a post.
…..that way lies madness. Pretty sure Facebook tried it once! C15 installed and looking steady and solid… Full screen mode is bliss!
Only 45 more minutes and I can log off my work PC and jump on the Mac and see it finally! ![]()
Mostly additional bloat. Excited about a few features, but there’s not enough of an improvement to justify the update cost for me.
Hmm, I wonder?
I’m happy about improvements to the Expression Map function, but lately, every update seems to bring new bugs.
On the other hand, I have to appreciate Steinberg’s efforts to make maintenance updates more frequent than before…
Honestly, am I the only user who wants them to reduce bugs and ensure stability before adding new features?
At least with version 14, I was plagued by so many new bugs that I learned it’s really not a good idea to jump into new updates right away.
but I´m not sure it has the same quality…
I love hearing from an astrophysicist.
Been there done all of that, useless.
Enjoy your annual ‘Paid’ upgrade.
