Cubase 15 on MacOS 27 (Golden Gate)

This week the Beta of MacOS27 will be released to the developers. Who here is courageous enough to test it with Cubase 15 and Nuendo15?

I want to know if they fixed the GPU issues :stuck_out_tongue:

Not me, in fact I haven’t even installed Tahoe, it’s still not fully compatible with Cubase 14 and Wavelab So I’m still sticking with Sequoia.

No plans at all to get Cubase 15

Same with Nuendo 15. I’ll re-evaluate again when the summer sale starts.

I’m also curious

What GPU issues? Were those introduced in OS 26 and never fixed even with the most recent version? I’m still using Cubase 15.30 on OS 15.

OS26 Tahoe issue with laggy UI:

It’s really unclear who is using Cubase 15. Some comments come from the unsupported Cubase 14. It looks pretty unclear whether this has been solved or not.

I know I have an issue in even Sequoia where if the monitors have different refresh rates and I try bringing a window back and forth, the screen will start flickering.

I wonder whether macOS 27 will solve anything since it looks like an optimization-focused OS update. I hope someone might try.

it has not. this issue seems to occur in Cubase and Nuendo as far back as version 12 - up until V15. support wrote back to me with the information that the problem lies with apple, that’s all I know.

yes that is something I am hoping as well. there seem to be a lot of bugfixes (fixed sloppy AI code probably haha)

That’s a long time to blame the OS when other DAWs seem not to have that problem. I’d say it’s a Steinberg software issue due to some approach they really don’t want to change (maybe something deprecated or undefined behavior), but some companies sure like to avoid responsibility.

Anyway, it kind of looks like different aspects of the issue have been patched and Steinberg claims it’s been fixed, so it would need to be pushed, or someone with connections at this point would need to do something if it’s been an issue for this long.

They fixed the GUI issue pretty much within weeks on Cubase 15 coming out (I remember having it and the temporary fix even then was close the mixconsole if you have it minimised behind the project)…

I expect it’ll work in Golden Gate fine. I’d put it on my MacBook straight away, however the bigger issue is Steinberg Download Assistant definitely will not work as It uses Rosetta…

Rosetta is still supported in macOS Golden Gate and thus the Download Assistant works as is already.

Just put golden gate on. I have Cubase Pro 15 and Spectralayers 11 running fine.

Rosetta is on golden gate so download assistant will work with it, just seen that it’ll stay for MacOS27 but will be gone for 28 onwards, so all good for now.

That’s amazing. Thanks for trying that out!

Does it still give UI stutter when you do the following:

  1. Open Channel Inspector for one instrument/audio channel
  2. Put a VST into an insert slot of said instrument/audio channel
  3. Have the VST effect UI overlap the channel inspector and try to change a few settings

Usually this is when the UI starts lagging for me. I make sure none of my VST UI’s ever overlap the channel inspector. I’ve heard from a Cubase 15 user that he still had lags in the UI when he did that.

Thanks again!
