Hi. I’m having major issues with regard to Cubase 15 Pro crashing violently on macOS Sequoia 15.7.2. Seems like it will happen whenever a second save operation is triggered, which could be during auto-save, could be manual, but at some point while working on the project, Cubase will just entirely exit-to-desktop, leaving behind a corrupted save instead of any backup of the last changes made to the project.
My system is a MacBookPro17,1, the 13-inch M1 model from 2020 with the Touch Bar, and during my trial of Cubase 15 earlier this year, I never experienced crashes at all, even with plugins running and in similar configurations to what I am trying to use now, as I generally work with templates. This particular machine has 16 GB of RAM, a 500 GB internal SSD, and my typical configuration has a Lexar 64 GB USB key for Waves/Plugin-Alliance licenses, an iLok 3rd-gen USB-A key, and a Samsung T7 1 TB for projects.
You can kind of get a false sense of hope with the program while leaving it idle, then if you go to interact with it, or make changes you want to save, it will crash in an extremely reproduce-able manner, as in, I can make Cubase crash the same way over and over, even though the error dump says it includes different libraries in the “crash thread,” and Cubase itself doesn’t seem to agree what caused the crash on restart.
Part of what drove me to purchase Cubase was the ability for me to take my projects cross-platform and on the go, which I wasn’t able to make work on Studio One, and as that might suggest, I do use a Windows PC at my studio workstation, which has proven completely rock-solid with Cubase 15 Pro and continues to operate solid even when left running for days. The PC also utilizes the Lexar USB, iLok, and T7, and none of them cause any issues there.
Curious to know if this issue has driven anyone to abandon C15, or if switching to run in Rosetta 2 mode was helpful at all. I will be (hopefully) working mobile much more in the near future and need to sort this out, especially considering that I frequently use my DAW to do live show multitrack recording.
