I don’t know if maybe some of the rest of you are running in to this, but I am having issues with Cubase Pro and my RME UCX II on a Macbook Pro M1 (2020 running Tahoe). The problem I’m seeing is that I will open the project while I’m on the road, I’ll go ahead and do some work with simply the Built In audio driver when the stuff I am doing is fairly simple. I then bring the project into the studio, hook up my UCX II, and… nothing. Not only will Cubase not switch over to the UCX, but it won’t even SEE it at all. See screenshot:
Now, when I open a project in Wavelab, it will pick up the UCX II and automatically switch to it every time! How is that possible?
Anyone else see this issue? It’s at the point now where nothing I do can switch Cubase back to my UCX. I’ve tried at least 5-6 restarts, reinstalled the RME drivers, the Kernal Extension (per the RME website).
I’d love any ideas or feedback, am I missing something stupid here?
I was able to see the UCX and assign it. Thanks for the tip, I was trying to do this from the Audio Connections and wasn’t seeing it. Please excuse me I’m fairly new to Mac.
Is there a way however, to make Cubase DEFAULT to this sound engine when it is plugged in, like my PC does?
Its because “on the road” you’ve just changed Cubase’s assigned interface. It should do the exact same thing to you if you did it using a PC.
Cubase doesn’t automatically switch your interface at will, YOU need to go back in and tell it what you are using.
My “Default” interface is my RME Digiface. If I open Cubase with it turned off, I have to pick a new audio device. Once that interface is set, its SET. Regardless if I turn on my Digiface later, Cubase’s interface was switched to something else and doesn’t put it back until you tell it to.
In theory, you SHOULD get the warning window asking you to choose a new interface, but since you’ve now worked and saved the project using ‘built in audio’ as its device, its likely not going to warn you since you’ve been saving projects with it.
Wavelab is a completely different beast than Cubase and is handled by PG and his team, not the Cubase team. The two don’t work the same at all in that respect.
I think this hits the nail on the head exactly. I never saw that warning window like I’m used to. But you’re exactly right - I DID save a project with the “Built In” audio driver on the Mac. Stands to reason it won’t just revert back to it; if it’s present or not.
