Hi
I’ve recently had an issue that I just can’t seem to fix.
I am using a brand new MOTU 16A and have a SSL UF1 to control CB via 360. It has been working fine but now whenever I choose master fader on the UF1 to control the stereo out it changes the volume audibly and the stereo out meter output changes but the output (going to export etc.) remains unaffected ny the fader so I am having to try and balance the total output via individual channels - nightmare!
I use Control Room and have the Output Stereo Bus to disconnected and using monitor in CR instead.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated as I am pulling my hair out trying to figure this one out?
Does this also happen if you move the master fader by hand eh mouse I mean? I don’t use a remote and doing it manually or drawing automation data works as expected. On occasion I do a fade out like this or change a part of a project’s level, but genarally I leave my master at 0db. If I need to change the overall level I use a plugin on the master buss for that. I agree the redoing a mix to get the correct level is not nice (up to impossible).
Hi
Thanks for the reply. I seem to have worked around it eventually by moving my master bus monitoring inserts (meter pro & supervision) over to control room. Now when I use the master fader it changes the volume and the input to those plugins which previously didn’t see the level changes. This is actually a better set-up but why it suddenly changed behaviour I don’t know. Painful learning experience butgot there thankfully.
The master bus inserts are pre fader. but the master fader is pre render mixdown. I think you can switch plugins to post fader. There is a line indicating where pre fader slots switches to post fader if I remember correctly, you can drag it up and down.
Dither should be post fader (or fader at 0db) and true peak limiter too in most cases.
I was searching for a way to do that on the Master (Stereo out) bus as I know you can do so on audio channels, but couldn’t see how to do that on that bus.
I saw a google article stating the first 1-6 or 1-14 master bus insert slots (version dependant) were pre-fader and 7-8 or 15-16 were post. I tried moving them arond but it made no difference.
I’m using an external compressor on master insert and that seems quite happy there and it makes sense to not have monitoring tools in-line on the main bus, but rather better running indepently in Control Room … to my mind
I checked, you can right click on any master bus slot and set as last pre fader slot. And yes, things that must not be rendered are better in the control room. Remember control room plugins are global and not saved per project, so will be in all your projects, which can be a problem with heavy cpu plugins. In principal at least dither and plugins that add dither like waves L3 etc should be post fader (or fader at 0db)
