Cubase 15’s Stem Separation

I just wish they had at least matched the quality of the competition. I feel like full-quality Spectralayers stem-separation with the same limited stem options they have now would have been a great middle ground. Cubase’s current implementation behaves more like “fast” mode.

I’ve read a lot of github etc discussion on those but here’s my personal situation/opinion on the larger picture…..

I don’t have time to try dozens of variations of root-code stuff. Nor the interest.

The general path for this tech (as you know), is

  1. github etc developers
  2. Commercial-product manufacturers integrate/tweak the codes THEY select to utilize within their gui package…
  3. End-user (me) auditions and buys.

SOME commercial-software product mgrs swear they invent their own “routines”. Whatever. I say bs….but…whatever. Everyone analyzes what everyone else is doing imo.

I’ll audition/buy any/all commercial demixing offerings that work for the various types of sources I have …..knowing full well that what I’m essentially doing is saying (in the case of sl for example) “Robin is the guy analyzing all the models…..he’s the guy making the call on using/not using a particular set of underlying code…and further tweaking it”

And then, I buy it.

For sure, Robin and other commercial-software mgrs are fully up to speed with stuff like SCnet and BS-RoFormer…and may/may not utilize in future releases.

I don’t have a need to know the nuts/bolts of competing/complimentary github code itself. No time.

I’m not going to spend my days, sifting through root code to find some variation that removes a harmonica best on a single solitary audio track of mine.

It would drive me nuts sifting through that stuff. I’m content to let guys like Robin etc decide what gets used. I’m content to be aware of advancement generalities of code, but that’s as far as I go.

I’ve been using Logic Pro on a Mac to stem audio then dragging the separated files into Cubase artist 15 with pretty good results.

I have to say I was a bit miffed Artist 15 doesn’t have its own stem separating tool.
