Cubase 16 Scratch Pad Feature

Cubase 16 Feature Request / Wishlist

1. Dedicated Sketchpad / Scratch Pad Feature Similar to the Scratch Pad in Studio One or the Session View workflow in Ableton Live, it would be amazing to have an integrated space to experiment with arrangements, loops, and musical ideas before commiting them to the main timeline. A non-destructive sandbox area directly inside the project would greatly enhance creativity and composition.

2. Adjustment Layer Track (Vegas Pro Style Effect Track) Taking inspiration from video editing software like Vegas Pro (Adjustment Tracks), I’d love to see dedicated FX adjustment tracks. The idea is to place a single track above other tracks, load an arbitrary chain of plugins onto it, and draw in regions (e.g., just for a single bar, or at the end of a measure) where those effects apply to everything underneath. This would make temporary drop-ins, transitions, and localized group processing much faster and more visual than setting up complex automation or auxiliary sends.

3. Parallel Processing & Multiband FX Chains Moving beyond the traditional serial insert chain is long overdue. It would be a game-changer to split insert signals directly within the channel strip—allowing parallel plugin routing as well as 2-band or 3-band frequency splits. Built-in parallel and multiband signal routing per track would eliminate the need for cumbersome routing workarounds (like creating multiple FX buses or using third-party container plugins).

+1 :100::100::100:

  1. Is a phenomenal Idea and would be very unique for a DAW
  2. Would be a dream to have it. Fastest workflow ever.

Re:3. I have suggested this a thousand years ago, but imagine if you could just click on the insert slot and drag left/right to mix in the effect (think of how the send volume works). A loft of effects already have a mix button but having it natively for everything would be awesome.

Additionally an option to change the signal flow would be cool. One option would be forwarding the actual mixed signal. Dragging a single bar on the insert slot, as described above, to determine the mix amount (i.e. what happens now when using a plugin’s mix button).

The other option would be enabling “true parallel” mode which would split the bars in two (top/orange, bottom/blue). The top would control the clean signal and the bot the processed (think of the Wet/Dry knobs in FabFilter Pro-C). Their blend would pass on to the next insert slot.
