Cubase 5.5.2 crashes when trying to open a huge project.

Hello,

I’m using EW products with Cubase 5.5.2 without problems in general. But I have one important problem with this setup that I couldn’t solve for months.

For example when I load 4 powerful legato patches from Hollywood Strings into 4 PLAY instances in a project, everything works and plays very good. But when I try to load this project, Cubase starts to load patches (of course it takes time) but at the end of loading Cubase always crashes. So I abort the loading of some patches during opening, project opens and than I load the patches again (Cubase does not crash for all projects but only ones including powerful patches. But what I didn’t understand is when I load same powerful patches in an active project it never crahses and plays very well. It only crashes during opening a saved project).

My PC setup is: Intel Quad 3.0ghz, 8 GB DDR2 (4*2), Steinberg MR816X. Is this a common problem? Should I freeze the instrumens before saving the project?

Thanks,
Cenk

I found something!

When I open a big Cubase 5 project including 4 GB of VST plugins with Steinberg MR 816X ASIO drive, Cubase crashes. But Cubase can open the same project successfully when Creative ASIO driver is active!

My MR 816X is connected to the firwire PCI card with Texas Instruments chipset. I’ve installed all the latest firmware and updates for all devices & software.

How can Creative open the project but MR 816X cannot??

I found this by checking Cubase 5 crash report log. It says as below. What should I do?

What OS?

Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit

Everything is 64bit. There are no any 32 bit plug-ins in these big projects.

BTW freezing is not a solution because freezed instruments are loaded during operning the project anyway.

A note: Cubase crashes only during opening the big project with Steinberg MR816X. When I load same plugins in a new project everything works & play good. But after saving and trying to open this project Cubase crashes (this is not happening on all projects but only on big ones).

But if I select Creative ASIO driver before opening this big project, it opens & plays.

I don’t understand that! Creative ASIO is better than Steinberg MR816X ASIO??

Please help me…I’ll have to change my sound card if I cannot solve this problem :frowning:

Sorry to revive this thread Cenk, but, I am having the exact same issue…have you worked things out with your setup??

I’m having this issue yet AGAIN with another project. Steinberg, can we please get any sort of word on this? I’m an avid Cubase user, but I feel like I’m almost being punished for using your Audio Interface (the MR816X) because it crashes on my first project load, and then seems to work fine. It’s just annoying to have to load my first project twice because of an Audio Interface problem…ESPECIALLY when it’s YOUR Audio Interface.

Cheers.

Your audio interface is not the problem. I would see what I could do to optimize your computer’s performance for DAW operation, since large projects can really choke your computer if it’s not very strong.

Given that we are talking about a HUGE project, your computer specs are important as well as what other plugins your using. There is no way for anyone to have any idea what may be causing it without more information.

I don’t think it has anything to do with my computer specs because it works fine upon loading Cubase the 2nd time…Cubase only crashes the first time I open it after a clean boot. I’ve had this problem for months now and it’s really frustrating.

Just for interest anyway, here are some computer specs:

i7 860
16 GB DDR3 1600MHz RAM
4 7200 RPM SATA HDDs
Win 7 Ultimate x64
Cubase 5.5.3 x64
Primarily 64bit plugs, but a few are still being bridged with jBridge.
