Happens on random occasions. Does anyone know why this might be ?

That question is impossible to answer. What is your system? What OS? What Cubase version? 64 or 32 bits? What kind of project(s)? VSTis used? etc, etc…
Cubase is 64 bit. Windows 7 64 bit.
VST’s used: gladiator x64 bit, Absynth 5, Kontant 5, Groove Agent ONE, Retrologue and then some audio channels.
I use a fireface400 for audio input/output.
