Cubase 7 on Windows 11

At the moment I’m thinking in updating my sistem to Windows 11.

Does anyone have some experiences with the compatibily of Cubase 7 and Windows 11?

Thanks!

C7 is not compatible to Windows 11.

Not at all?

It worked fine with Windows 10.

Hi and welcome to the forum,

Officially it’s not supported. But if you are lucky, it’s working.

Anyway I would strongly recommend to the current Cubase version (12).

Any news on that issue? Is Cubase 7 still not compatible with windows 11?

Why would there be any news, Cubase 7 has had no updates in over ten years. If it wasn’t compatible before it won’t become compatible

There could be updates, patches for Windows 11 alowing to use Cubase 7… anyone has ever tested? (it was the same case with early windows 10 versions - they did not work with cubase 7, but after some patches and updates it worked…)

What issue are we talking about?

At any rate, I just did a quick install of Cubase 6.5 (hadn’t installed in a while)…and then…a download of Cubase 7.5 complete iso from SB …which I hadn’t grabbed in prior years…and installed that as well.

Each loads fine on Win11 Pro 24H2, routed to a motu uktralite mk5.

Didn’t go into detail other than creating a few quick audio tracks to test i/o connections.

The only gremlin I encountered was an initial dongle error at 7.5 startup. However, that was due to 7.5 installing an older ver of elicenser software over the current ver during install

All that was necessary was to exit everything, uninstall ecc software…and then reinstall the ecc current-ver software. Then 6.5 and 7.5 start up error-free with dongle inserted.

At the moment, 64bit versions of Cubase 14, 7.5, 6.5, and Nuendo 13 are apparently living in harmony on the computer.

Are there deeper gremlins people are experiencing?

Cubase 7 will not get compatible with Win11. Cubase 7 is out of production since more than 10 years now.

I’m running 7.5 on win 11 Pro Win11 Pro 24H2, Just test installed it today. Works fine.

It is not recommended and not supported.
Support for Cubase 7 has ended anyway.

I politely offer that those three statements don’t mean anything to experienced users…

especially the “support has ended”…have you noticed the huge amount of tutorials, manuals, tips, forums…for Cubase 7 alone?..including BY Steinberg direct on youtube etc. Support is everywhere

Your previous additional statement that Cubase 6/7/9 etc simply won’t work on win 11 is incorrect as…they do work…I have them installed on win11 pro alongside Cubase 14/Nuendo 13 etc.

While I don’t use the older versions much except occasionally on WinXp, Win7…

it is indeed a testament to Microsoft’s philosophy and Win 11’s ability to provide superb backwards capability for older programs that Cubase 5,6,7,8,9 and Nuendo 3,4,5,6,7,8 etc can run on modern systems.

Not to mention the fine programming/coding skills of the earlier Cubendo versions by guys who no doubt retired long ago.

All that being said, my personal old favs are 6.5 and 9. :).

Of course, this is too general.

It can work on one system while it won’t work on others.
I believe that there are problems buried in the OS that can’t be resolved by the user.

What problems did the op user of this thread have?

thank you very much. I do have many projects on my Cubase 7. although I already bought cobase 13 I am used to the old version and am affraid they won’t work the same way on 13. or on windows 11. so that was my question. thank you for your insights.!
