Don’t forget to press the “Vote” button on the top!
It’s inexplicable to me why this topic is so debated and has so little votes…

Probably because the vote button only seems to show up on the very top of this topic, at least that’s what I see, anyway I did vote for it but highly doubt it would influence Steinberg’s thinking, hopefully I am wrong.

A lot of “innovations” from Linux are often force fed into other distros because Red Hat and Canonical have the most amount of money to “influence” those changes. That’s not a problem exclusive to Ubuntu. Things like systemd and pulseaudio exist because of Red Hat.

I didn’t even know there was a vote button! Thanks for that!

The votes are one of the biggest influences on Steinberg.
Many of the top voted request have been put into the software in the last few versions.

A comment like “+1” has pretty much no effect.

Then I’m really hoping I am wrong.

It would be nice if Steinberg would at least give us their thoughts though ( are you listening Charlie ? )

Thoughts on what? Steinberg staffers have already written elsewhere that votes matter and you can see it in the new features of the past updates. Expression maps, modulators, score editor… to name just a few.

Or do you mean on Linux? The last comment I saw basically said, that the request did not receive enough votes yet to convince Steinberg it is worth the investment.

Of course I mean on Linux, this is what this thread is all about.

Well, glad I could help.

I like this in theory. I’m not changing to Win11, period. In fact I just built a new machine and kept the old SSD drives with Win10 on them. However, what happens with all the vsts that are not available for Linux?

For those users with their ear to the ground with regards to operating systems, you may be aware of the international conflicts between many countries and Microsoft. Windows 11 causing security vulnerabilities for large corporations who are now retraining employees on Linux.
The share price of Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) cratered last week – down 11% Due to privacy and security concerns. Microsoft’s market share is in decline as Government and public sector companies are moving away from Windows 11.

Steinberg may have to look at porting Cubase to Linux in the future otherwise the Mac version maybe the only version available if Microsoft doesn’t get its act together.

Microsoft’s stock fell recently after their earnings call, which actually indicated that the company exceeded general revenue expectations for the quarter. Investors hewever expressed concern about a shortfall in expected revenue from Azure cloud computing and also about continued heavy capex expenditure and infrastructure investment in OpenAI. These were the primary drivers of the stock price drop. It had nothing to do with privacy or security concerns, or with the desktop market generally.

Let’s not turn this into a Windows-haters thread – all that is being asked for is the option to have a native Cubase/Nuendo release. Everyone who’s happy on other OSes should not feel threatened.

As for Windows 11, there is apparently also a policy change to dial down the amount of unwanted stuff being chucked at customers, not just those “features” that are clear and self-evident privacy and security issues. It doesn’t take a genius to put 2+2 together and figure that the trillions being burned through at the moment will never show a return.

Against that backdrop, Linux might be the only game left in town when the so-called “AI” bubble bursts and the flurry of circular “investments” is exposed for the Ponzi scheme that it is.

Have you tried Yabridge?

In my experience, Yabridge only works if the VST installs at all. Arturia stuff can easily be installed for example. Though the overhead and CPU usage dramatically increased.

Steinberg stuff was impossible for me to install on Linux with Wine. Tried a bunch of workarounds, none worked. And therefore, Yabridge didn’t help.

Thanks. I found the button now, too.
