Cubase and OneDrive

Hi, I’ve just installed Cubase 13 on my new Win 11 Laptop. it has saved a lot of config file folders to C:\Users\user name\OneDrive\Documents\Steinberg rather than to C:\Users\user name\Documents\Steinberg
I can’t find a way to change this location in Cubase, do I need to reinstall Cubase with OneDrive disabled to get everything saved locally
My Win 10 Desktop machine has everything for Cubase locally and that also has OneDrive running

Hey,

This made me a little nutty too for a while but the solution for me was to open the OneDrive folder in Windows (with the OneDrive app running, check your icons on the right of the Taskbar), navigate to the settings folder, right click on it, select “Always keep on this device”, let OneDrive do its thing and then it is always kept as a local copy.

If not, OneDrive will often store these files as remote only, especially if your drive is running low on space.

Just looked into a bit further and it appears to be a relative reference to the appdata folder on Windows and the user’s Library folder on Mac, so unless you change that relative path (a not so good idea, potentially) the choice of where the settings are saved is immutable.

May prove a useful resource for removing OneDrive without the need to re-install, just be sure to back the folder’s contents up first because, well, Microsoft. Sorry for all the edits, tiring day.

I now have the folders stored locally and just backing up offline
You inspired to take the opportunity to have a look at my other nuisance folders for Melodyne and moved their Separations folder from OneDrive by editing the location in their plist file (if anyone else needs it, it’s the .plist in \AppData\Roaming\Celemony Software GmbH on Windows - back it up first)
