Cubase Artist 11 upgrade & license migration

Hi everyone,

I’m coming back from few year of music production break…

I’m currently still using Cubase Artist 11 with dongle USB e-Licenser(which will be closed down in 2025). I know this question’s have already been answered, but I want to be sure that my understanding of new licensing is correct.
So…

My plan is to upgrade from Cubase Artist 11 to Cubase Artist 14(lower cost).
After that I will migrate my USB-eLicenser to new Steinberg Licensing? After that I can fully use Cubase Artist 14 via new Steinberg Licensing and also upgrade it to 15, 16, 17…(when newer versions will be released.)?
I could also upgrade from Artist 14 to pro version?

Best regards

Hi and welcome to the forum!
The license on your dongle will remain as is and you can still use it to run C11 Artist. However, after upgrading to C14 Artist you don’t necessarily need your dongle anymore. You can simultaneously run C14 Artist on three different devices without dongle. And as you are now within the realm of the new licensing system you can upgrade to any future version with a discount based on your Cubase Artist 14 version that will be associated with your account.

Reco29 thank you for welcome greeting.
Just one more question… currently I don’t have Cubase Artist 11 installed on PC.
If I want to upgrade to Cubase Artist 14, does Artist 11 needs to be installed?
Or is upgrade completely separate installation of newer version?

Best regards

No, all you need to do is connect your USB Stick when you do the update, because it will mark the license on the dongle as updated.

Cubase itself is not needed for that. Just make sure you have the latest Download Assistant installed, that will include the required tools (Activation Manager, eLicenser Control Center, Library Manager)
