Good day.
I`m struggling to record Midi to Audio directly from a midi track (VST) to an Audio track. I know it can be done by export/Audio Mixdown but it is not possible to set the audio levels. I would prefer to record the audio while playing the Midi Track.
Is this possible with Cubase Elements?
The routing of instrument out to audio track in is not available in Elements.
What do you mean by set the levels, the level you set on the instrument track would be the same level you get in the audio track…set it how you like.
Ok. Thank you for the information. I suspected so.
I`m used to record diretcly from a midi track (VST) to an audio track in Cakewalk; record a few seconds to verify the audio levels as well as the wave form.
I need adapt or upgrade to the Artists version.
Unless this has changed, the feature you desire (if I’m understanding correctly) is available only in the Pro version.
Thank you. I will check
Of course you can set the audio levels when using export, you can do it at multiple stages: in the VSTi itself, with the gain control of the pre section, with the channel fader, with the master fader (not recommended).
Hello,
the functionality you are looking for to “convert” a VST Instruments MIDI to a seperate audio track is named “Render in place”, and is available from Cubase Artist version.
With Render in place you can select from several options what to include into the rendered audio track, see:
So setting the level in the mixer correctly, and then render.
From what I was reading, the OP was looking for a way to record the output of a VSTi directly to an audio track in real time. In Elements one could simply do an Export of the audio after the MIDI is recorded. This does not require a software upgrade and accomplishes basically the same thing.
I’m still a bit confused about the “not possible to set the audio levels”, though.
@Fernando_Costa - Are you really using MIDI tracks, or are you using Instrument tracks?
OK, if an upgrade that offers a lot more functionality is no option, then exporting the track and importing the audio will do the work.
To me it would be logical that the export of the track happens post mixer fader, so it should include Channel Insert VSTs, Channel Strip, and Sends, and the level is set by the channel fader.
And btw. I do not know for Elements and Artist, but in CB Pro 14 I can select VST instrument outputs as audio input for audio channels.
So recording audio from a VST while playing MIDI from that instrument track works fine, at least in Pro.
Thank you for commenting.
Yes. Midi instrument tracks. I have a few. SampleTank 4 MAx, Addictive Drums 2 and the ones included in Sonar Platinum. I still own a Roland XV3080 Sound Module and now the the instruments included in Cubase Elements 14.
I`m assuming that it will be almost impossible to record Addictive Drums 2 with Elements 14, each drum unit in a separate audio track? Correct?
MIDI tracks and Instrument tracks are two different things. That’s why I was curious as to which you are using.
I think there still might be some confusion between “record” and converting to audio. Anyway, I’m not an Addictive Drums user (Toontrack for drums usually for me). However, this article might be of interest for routing individual outputs …
I`m impressed with this forum.
So many replies and a genuine interest in helping.
Thank you everyone.
