Cubase Elements content filling up OS drive storage

Cubase Elements 14:

Hi folks, I’m new and already have a problem; of sorts.

So, I installed SDA; then downloaded all the files for my new purchase of CBE14, now my OS is too full. I set downloads file as: H:\Steinberg. I couldn’t find an option to change install directory though.

In SLM, I ‘moved’ 5 VST libraries but this has had almost no positive effect (some, yes). What can I do so my CBE14 and its libraries/VSTs etc etc is all installed where I want, (namely: H:\Software)? Do I have any workable solutions to effect this change?

I get that SOME files HAVE to be on the OS drive, but this is too much.

My OS was already suffering with being 75% full and there’s no more physical SSD drive space left to expand it. I’ve always endeavoured to keep it low so it loads fast and is also light and nimble, but I just installed CBE14 and now it’s at ~86% capacity,.

I know it’s not completely full, but it’s TOO full. It leaves me no room for future installs of anything else (games will go to D:\Games\) or software too, but again, with new files it means more OS-reliant install files will HAVE to go to C:\… so,.. yeah,.. you see my predicament.

Please advise. Thank you.

Hi and welcome to the forum,

You can’t change the application directory, but you can change the content (which is the biggest part of the application size) directory. You can do so in the Steinberg Library Manager > Show Options > Library default location.

Hi Martin thanks for the response, much appreciated. I have moved the libraries for Halion, Groove Agent & Cubase / Nuendo from C:\xxxxx to H:\Steinberg\Library..

This is all I can do?

ChatGPT5 suggested I delete the downloaded install files,.. is it talking gibberish or is there some merit to its suggestion? I downloaded about 12-13Gb (I’d estimate) through the SDA, but can these install (downloaded) files now be deleted since the installation is complete? FWIW, I’m not suggesting I remove the installation,. just the files that were used to begin the installs,.. I hope my own confusion there isn’t confusing you, sorry.

Hi,

If you have installed the product, you can delete the installer.

:+1: Thanks. :+1:
