Hello @MrSoundman and @Johnny_Moneto,
As @MrSoundman already mentioned, I’m not trying to hijack the topic, by presenting FreeBSD here.
I am sharing my personal experience as a former Linux and BSD server system administrator. I have worked with Debian, Debian-based and RedHat-based Linux distros. Some of the servers were running FreeBSD and OpenBSD. My home desktop, back then was also FreeBSD, and Ubuntu at work.
Linux gained more popularity than BSD, through the years, just because it was more oriented towards the desktop users, than BSD, but nowadays there are some desktop oriented FreeBSD-based distros, even MacOS itself could be cosidered as such.
I’ve just wanted to share some thoughts about an operating system that is superior in many aspects over Linux, and could be the better choice.
Here are some pros and cons for Steinberg:
Pros:
- If they decide to port the Steiny products to FreeBSD, they won’t need to hire more staff to develop and test their products. Due to the common things shared by both FreeBSD and MacOS, probably the current team will be able to support FreeBSD, or some FreeBSD-based distro.
Cons:
- If they decide to use some Linux distro, like Ubuntu Studio, for example, they will need to hire more people to develop and test the software. Because linux is completely different than MacOS.

We could start another thread “Cubase for FreeBSD”, but I’ll leave that decision to @Thurisaz .
Well, I wasn’t thinking about starting a separate discussion about “Cubase/Nuendo/Dorico for FreeBSD”, but probably I should do it?!
Best regards,
Thurisaz
