Cubase for Windows 7?

My recording machine is a Windows 7. I would like to add Cubase to it, but I am not sure if it is recently possible. I checked Cubase 10, and some people are selling the ones they used previously online with license, but I am not sure if you can install those old versions? The Cubase Download assistant is not compatibile with Windows 7 any more, and I am not sure if I buy the used license from someone and have it transferred, I can still actually download the corresponding version to it. Or is it still possible somehow?

Anyway, I also have license myself for Cubase 12. But there the problem again: it does not run on Windows 7. Is it possible I can use that license for Cubase 10 as well, or that won’t accept my license?

You can directly download the installers from the following page too. Older versions are listed under " Unsupported Products".

If Cubase 12 is your first Cubase version, you can only use this one because all former versions use the old licensing system that requires the license to be on a USB eLicenser (dongle).
The old system will be discontinued early next year so that it won’t be possible to make any changes to the licenses stored on the dongle any longer. The dongles themselves continue to work though and the licenses can be used until the dongle breaks. So if you want to buy a Cubase 10 license from someone else, make sure the license is transferred to you before the shutdown of the eLicenser servers.

I’m wondering if it’s necessary to transfer the license?

Let’s say that the servers are finally shut down and you can’t do anything with a dongle anymore (except using it). Can’t you just buy an old Cubase 11 pro dongle from someone and use any old version of Cubase just with a dongle? That is, without any form of license transfer or registering it to your own Steinberg account, which will be impossible, anyway.

Yes, sure that’s possible if there are no other licenses on the dongle or if you transfer the Cubase one to a different eLicenser before the shutdown. But if you don’t own the license, you won’t get help from Steinberg in case of issues with the dongle for example. Somewhere on the website they mention that they will still provide help to customers with old licenses on a case by case basis after the shutdown.
