A Cubase file that stops loading completely due to a supposedly inactive license of a Softube product linked to iLok License Manager. The Cubase loading window remained inactive for a very long time and the only way to get rid of this inactive window was to go to the Windows Task Manager, select Cubase 13 and click on End Task.
FREEZE SCREEN
This has happened several times with various Softube plugins depending on which one shows up first when loading (I guess). I have proper licenses registered in my Softube account and clearly activated in iLok License Manager. This only happens with Softube plugins.
What could be causing this incomplete loading? Is it Cubase, Softube Central or iLok Manager? Has anyone else encountered this type of situation?
Generate a DMP file and share it via Dropbox or a similar service, please.
Use the Microsoft ProcDump utility to generate a DMP file, please.
Please download ProcDump64 from Microsoft (~650kB) and extract the archive to a local folder on your hard disk.
Run Command Prompt (cmd) as administrator (right click and select “run as administrator”)
Navigate (in the Command Prompt) to the folder with the extracted procdump file.
For example:
cd C:\ Users \ \ Downloads \ Procdump
Note: the dmp file will be written into that folder.
Launch Cubase/Nuendo. You can work as usual. At any time, change to the command prompt and start procdump, to monitor Cubase/Nuendo for unexpected behaviour (see next step).
The -h option will write a dmp file in case of an application hang. This might kick in too early sometimes, in case some action takes a little longer. Feel free to skip the “-h” option, if you are only up for fetching crashes.
The option -e will catch exceptions and the option -t terminations of the application.
Prodump is now monitoring the Cubase/Nuendo process and will write a crash log, in case Cubase/Nuendo crashes or hangs. Perform the action that causes Cubase/Nuendo to crash and send us the generated crash dmp.
ZIP and share the DMP file via Dropbox or a similar service, please.
Oddly this morning, the Cubase file that caused this situation loaded normally. During startup, a PACE License Software notification appeared, Cubase simply continued loading the file and everything is functional.
Here is some display of yesterday’s situation which caused the file loading to stop :
I believe the problem is not related to Cubase, but rather to Softube. After these windows were displayed, while Cubase was frozen, I was curious to see why VCA Compressor was not activated. I opened Softube Central and to my surprise the window displayed this:
It is as if when opening a Cubase file containing Softube plugins, the Softube control center did not have time to check the activation of the products and therefore signaled to iLok License Manager that a plugin required license authentication. Hence the appearance of these windows.
This morning, I started my computer, opened Cubase, select the same file, the PACE notification appears and ‘Boom’, no activation request and the file opens normally.
I reported this situation to Softube Support, as I believe the problem seems to be related to Softube Central in relation to iLok License Manager and not Cubase.
also something to try
close cubse, go to your plugin directory and temporary move the softube plugins to a different directoy that gets not scanned by cubase, then try to reopen the project again
if its working, you can be sure it was those plugins
also worth a try, updat the Ilok Software to the latest version
