Cubase, have all the extras/additional content been installed?

Hi guys,

A bit of confusion regarding all the extras and additional content and Steinberg Download Assistant.

I’m trying to get Cubase installed on a new Mac. I previously downloaded and installed C12 Pro using Steinberg Download Assistant. I subsequently had an issue with the Mac that required completely refreshing the OS etc. So I moved all the files SDA had downloaded onto a thumb drive so I’d have them ready to reinstall once my Mac was refreshed without having to download them again as I have a bad internet connection.

So, Mac refreshed, I’ve just reinstalled Cubase using the installer within the downloaded files. It installed very quickly. Suspiciously quick! And so it appears that none of the additional content has been installed. Opening VST Plugin info in C12 confirms I have no instruments.

So I go back to the downloaded files and sure enough, all of the folders are empty. Verve, Retrologue, etc etc. I remember being confused about this when I first tried to get Cubase installed on my Mac, and I made a post on here. A member helpfully explained that when Cubase is installed via SDA it ‘moves’ all the files out of the downloaded folders. So this explains why I have no additional content installed for this installation.

Why it does this is beyond me as it makes things very confusing. As I now have lots of empty folders that I had backed up assuming they were full. There are a few DMG installers like Spectralayers, Groove Agent, Padshop etc. Am I supposed to install these separately?

Could someone please explain how best to proceed? I just want to install ‘everything’. Right now I just have a barebones Cubase installation. Would it be best to just uninstall/delete everything and download/install everything again using SDA?

Thanks

If you no longer have the full set of installation files, this is the safest method.

Thanks. I’ll do that.

Annoying as I have a patchy internet connection and SDA won’t even connect. I have to take my machine to a friend’s place.

Is there a way to just download everything so I don’t end up in this situation again? The SDA seems to download and install at the same time, deleting/moving files as it does so, hence the confusion.

The download manager usually leaves the installation files in the Steinberg download folder after setup. You can back them up from there. If that doesn’t work for you, then do what @steve suggests: download only and set up manually.
