Cubase LE - a real thing or a demo for Elements?

Hi all, I hope I can get some help in deciding how involved I get with Cubase.

I’ve been a Mixcraft user for many years, coming from Reaper and before that, Cakewalk. I found Reaper too confusing, I preferred Mixcraft no-nonsense plug&play experience. Plus I digged their skin, visually speeding my workflow. At least until they change all this in v9 and 10.

So I’ve been looking at potential substitutes. I recently discovered I have a free copy of Cubase LE from Audient. I have a few months to test drive till January. But when I checked, I did not find a Cubase LE product description. It starts at Elements. So does anyone uses Cubase LE for production (hobbyist)? Or is it just a demo version for Elements? I’d love to find comparative descriptions between the Cubase versions.

Thanks in advance,

Andre

This has LE in the comparison.

Never really looked at mixcraft till now….sorta Reaper-ey looking

As Le is a sorta-freebie-only-bundled-with-various-3rdParty hardware….yeah….le is essentially a demo for the more feature-rich versions imo.

Maybe try the current trials of 15 to poke around with.

If you’re staying in hobby-land….I think there’s a thread around here where existing le guys ask for …..and receive…..a license upgrade to le 15. I think. I don’t quite follow that topic much.

On the other hand, it appears that upgrading from your le to elements 15 is only $50 so that may be a no-brainer.

It’s not a demo version but has limited tracks and plugins. For some it’s enough. If you register it you will get LE 15. It’s worth having a go to see if it is enough for you. It probably won’t be but it will cost you nothing.

There is a 60 day trial offered for Cubase. Maybe that would suit you in order to be able to check out Cubase.

Tipp: when using the trial version hold down the key Alt (Windows) / Opt (Mac) when starting Cubase. Then you can chose which edition you would like to check out (Elements, Artist, Pro).
