Hi, I’m currently using Cubase 14 and loving it. I have a friend interested in making music so I’m gifting him my old focusrite interface. He wants to try using Cubase LE. It’s unclear if this software is free, is it free? I saw something about going through a LANDR app or porthole, why? What’s this about? Long story short, can my colleague download Cubase LE for free and use it with a Focusrite interface? Is the LANDR thing the only way to do it?
Did a Cubase LE license come with the Focusrite interface?
It’s “free” when it’s included with a third party hardware purchase.
I don’t think so, I’ve had it for a while. I think it came with Ableton. No worries. Maybe he’ll go with Ableton.
Cubase Elements is fairly cheap (to me, at least). That would be the least expensive option to get into the Cubase world without owning a previous version. Sales pop up from time to time, as well.
Yeah he’s brand new to the world. I only suggested Cubase to him as I’d be able to help him through it, it’s the only DAW I’ve ever used, so it would be something that I was familiar with. He’s not sure he’ll stick with it, so his commitment to spending money is low. I’ll leave it up to him.
