Why can’t I get midi to transmit out of my USB connected to my new Nord Electro 6? I see VSL 1-16 listed as outputs but nothing works.
Can you post a screenshot of Studio>Studio Setup…>MIDI Port Setup please.
I figured out a workaround.
I’ve been using Cubase 11 to start projects because for some reason 12 stalls on me when I track live with between 14-16 tracks, which is how I track my basics. I’ve got 10 channels of drum mics + bass, guitar and usually a scratch vocal.
This project has a keyboard intro along with some additional keys so I tried laying out the basic structure but didn’t have any luck. For some reason Cubase Just won’t send midi data out of my usb connection in version 11.
I switched back to 12 and everything seems to work fine. I played the intro and the other parts, recorded them to an audio track and exported it back to version 11 so I can track with the whole band.
It’s a bit of a pain in the ass and I wasted about 3 hours trying to get it to work in 11 but this workaround seems to work. I’ll track the band parts in 11 and then once I have a take I’ll bounce it back into 12 for overdubs and mixing.
I’ve been using Cubase since V3.0 and have had to come up with some strange strategies to deal with quirks over the years but this one has been a stumper.
I’d still like to hear if anyone is having no issues passing midi through the usb connection with version 11. Since this is a common way I do my work it would be nice if I could get it going in version 11.
Thanks for the reply.
Is there any chance that in your Cubase 11 configuration, you’ve set up your keyboard as a remote controller or otherwise disabled that MIDI output in your Studio settings?
I would investigate any potential differences between your Cubase 11 and 12 configurations in those 2 areas.
You’ve marked your Nord Electro 6 as invisible to MIDI Output?
I just figured it out, if you notice the inactive status next to the check box, that was my issue. When I clicked the Nord out box, it still said inactive so it was confusing to me. I checked it anyway and presto, it works.
Thanks for the help!
