Cubase not recognized in Audacity or other external recording software

I don’t know what happened but Audacity doesn’t anymore take the sound from Cubase. I have the latest update of Audacity. I am using the external soundcard (Roland QuadCapture) and in Audacity i have WASAPI selected, playback and recording device are both 1-2 QuadCapture (but the recording device has (loopback) in the end of the word).
With this setup Audacity records well the sound from Web browser and from VCV rack (digital modular synth), Winamp or any other app I tried - BUT why not Cubase? Like I told this used to work well until today when I tried to have a recording with VCV and Cubase (guitar/synth)… 3 layers live improvisation recording. Audacity recorded only the VCV - but my headphones heard all 3 layers while I played.

I tried another software, VoiceMeeter, but it had the exactly same problem. Also, I cannot see Cubase in Windows10 sound mixer (the other sound apps are there normally).

Hi,

You said it used to work, but it doesn’t anymore. What has changed, please?

Cubase can never be seen in the Windows mixer as Cubase’s ASIO circumnavigates the Windows audio system. There are/were very good reasons for this.

Hi,

Honestly, I don’t understand your use case. I believe you can do all you need in Cubase and it would be much easier.

Windows made some updates. I also installed the latest version of Audacity (but it didn’t help to solve this problem). Also, I installed VCV stanalone version. Audacity used to record my sounds from Cubase about 1 month ago.

I use(d) Audacity for recording the sound, so that I can play with the VST effects in Cubase. I could make the Write mode on while recording in Cubase, BUT often it happens, that all my changes on those VST effects/instruments are not recorded. In many cases the track will remember only the latest setup of the knobs I used while recording.

What I record with this Audacity-method, is often some sort of Raw material, what I will later use again in Cubase, while doing some multitrack projects.

Hi,

Why not to record directly to Cubase and Write the automation at the same time?

I tried to tell that in my earlier message when I said this “I could make the Write mode on while recording in Cubase, BUT often it happens, that all my changes on those VST effects/instruments are not recorded. In many cases the track will remember only the latest setup of the knobs I used while recording.” — So that means, in other words, the automation in Cubase is not perfect. For some VST’s it may look perfect, but for many others not. If I have external recorder on, it will catch all the moves what I do in Cubase.

I am still looking for a solution to this problem. Like I told, Audacity used to record the sounds from Cubase, but probably after the Windows updates, that option disappeared.

Ok, so I was going through several options, and FINALLY found the way how Audacity is recording the sound from Cubase. Had to do like that:

AUDIO SETUP
Host - Windows WASAPI
Playback Device - Quad Capture 1-2
Recording Device - Quad Capture MAIN
