Cubase pitch shift sounds wrong in playback

Hi!

I recently got a Keith McMillen K board pro 4. It’s an awesome midi keyboard.

One of its features is that you can wiggle your fingers on the keys to get a vibrato effect. This replaces the pitch shift wheel that most keyboards have.

I’ve been trying to use it on a track in Cubase, but the playback doesn’t sound at all like how I play it. When I’m playing, I move my finger back and forth to create a vibrato effect. But on playback, it pretty much just holds the note a bit sharp or flat from its correct pitch.

I’m pretty sure this is a DAW issue and not a keyboard issue, since I’ve had similar problems recording with my Yamaha dgx 660 keyboard with a traditional pitch wheel. It’s almost like the daw is recording the shift with a delay, or failing to reset the pitch after each note or something.

I’ve seen a few other people have similar issues, so I thought I’d repost to see if anyone’s found a solution.

Hi and welcome to the forum,

I’ve been considering buying this keyboard for quite some time now. It’s an interesting one.

I believe you are experiencing the issue that has already been discussed. Open the Key Editor, in the Controller lane, click on the triangle icon (Controller Lane Setup) > Type of New Controller… Set it to Step.

I can wholeheartedly recommend this keyboard. It’s got enough range that I can actually play stuff on it, unlike the measly little 1/1.5 octave range that a lot of midi keys have. The MPE is also super cool and the keyboard fits perfectly on my pull-out keyboard tray under my desk.

Also, that did it! Thanks for the solution, and I’m sorry I couldn’t find it on my own. I appreciate the help.
