This has happened to me over the years with various Cubase versions. I’d like to know if this bug will be addressed and or any workarounds people have discovered:
MIDI Output routing to VST Rack instances sometimes gets corrupted in my session .cpr files (I also have big template .cpr files where this occurs).
What happens is an entire folder of midi tracks pointing to a single Rack instance change to a different MIDI Output. In the example below, my Berlin Viola tracks should be on instance 11. VEP HighStr but have changed to the next one down on the list which is instance 12. VEP LowStr. The midi channel assignments are correct and it seems everything else is OK but the changed midi output screws everything up and wastes time with me fixing (by selecting affected midi tracks and Shift+Alt+Clicking on the correct MIDI Output) and then double checking that nothing else has switched in my session, instead of me doing my professional composing work.
I’m currently using Vienna Ensemble Pro 7, but this issue has happened with any VST Rack instance (Omnisphere, Kontakt, whatever) where I have multiple instances in the session. My current template uses two Track instances and 12 Rack instances, along with over 1000 midi channel assignments. In previous version of my orchestral template, this has happening without VEPro (where I’m only using something crazy like 60 instances of Kontakt Rack Multis).
I have had some situations lately where Cubase and VEPro will hang and I have to force a reboot but since I haven’t saved when this happens it would seem that this shouldn’t affect a saved session file?
Hi,
Did you disable/enable the tracks?
Yes. Is it better to just leave everything enabled?
Hi,
In the past, there was an issue in this area. If I’m not mistaken, it has been fixed. But if you disabled the track in the Cubase version, where the issue was present, it might still happen, once you enable the track.
I haven’t disabled tracks on the Cubase side. I’ll try a different approach by leaving VEPro instances enabled.
It is still happening to me with enabled track. I have a template that I’ve been using since Cubase 9.5.
For my case, I have midi tracks for brass instruments routed to a Kontakt rack instrument. They have been randomly routed to a choir Kontakt in the rack for years if I exit Cubase and load the project again. Since the bug is kind of consistent, I just route them back to the correct one, but it would be great to see it fixed.
Hi,
I’m thinking, if this could play a role. Could you Backup the project (from the template) and save this new project as a new template?
I still have this bug in C14 and N14, it happens frequently. I generally don’t disable VEP instrument tracks.
Hi,
Which version of Cubase 14 exactly do you have, please?
Do you have steps, how to replicate the issue, please?
I’ve tried saving it as a new template in Cubase 13, created a new project and the bug still got carried over. I’ve replaced all the rack instruments with track instruments in my new workflow so I don’t have to route MIDI tracks & deal with the bug anymore, but I know the bug is still there.
Hey everyone! Hope you’re all doing well.
I’m also experiencing this issue on Cubase 14.0.20, running on macOS Sequoia. In my case, it happens specifically with SINE Player instances loaded as rack instruments (multi output). After reopening a project, some MIDI tracks get randomly rerouted to different rack instruments — the original routing is lost.
Really hoping Steinberg can take a look at this soon. Let me know if there’s any way I can help with testing or providing more info.
Cheers!
Daniel
Hi mates! How are you?
A quick update on my side. This bug is still present on version 14.0.32 (Intel) running it on macOS Sequoia. Issue happens even with the most recent versions of Kontakt and SINE Player. (Kontakt 8.5.1; Kontakt 7.10; SINE 1.3.4 and SINE 1.3.3)
After several days of work on a single project, it’s truly disheartening to reopen the session and find that all the routings are suddenly messed up.
I trust the Steinberg team will address this issue soon, as it’s resulting in a substantial loss of valuable time.
Hi,
Do you disable the track?
Does it happen in projects created fresh (from scratch, not from a template) in Cubase 14.0.32?
Hey Martin! hope you are doing well.
Yes, it happens with projects created from scratch; and it happens on both cases, in projects where I have disabled and re-enabled midi / instrument / rack tracks; and in projects with all tracks enabled all the time, sessions where I have been working a lot (lets say, more than 5 days in a row). I don’t know if this is related to the size of the project, but it’s so random that I cannot find a clear answer.
Thanks a lot again, best regards!
