Hi, PLEASE HELP I can’t proceed until I know.
I have a new PC w/ 2 SSD’s (C: 1tb & D: 2tb)… I have an optimized ‘Win. 11 Pro’ w/ my ‘UR242’ A/I installed on the ‘C:’… I just installed the ‘Steinberg Download Assistant’ … I installed ‘Cubase Pro 13’ app. on the main ‘C:’… Everything else that’s left is labeled as either. “Instrument”, “Application”, “Content Set” (besides “Iconica Sketch”, “Verve” & “Demo Projects”)… Where should I download these??? I’m thinking; all ‘Instruments’, ‘Apps’ to my ‘C:’ then change the “target folder” to my ‘D:’ for all ‘Content’ & ‘Content Sets’… Sounds right? Any help would be great, asap; So I can get going. Thanks again.
I would place everything other than the main program in the second ssd, despite that, steinberg will place your projects and setting on the main ssd in documents folder and in the user/appdata/…. Such as user presets, expression maps. What I did was added 500 GB ssd just for the windows libraries (documents, downloads, music, pictures, videos), that way if the main ssd crashes or windows needs to be reset then you are safe. If you don’t have the capability to do that then maybe you should split the first ssd into 2 partitions (500 each) then move libraries to the second partition and create your music project folders in the Music library.
Okay, thank you. I’ll see what I can do… It got extra tricky when I decided to see what was installed in ‘program files’ just from the ‘Pro 13’ app… Even w/out installing any plugins or content, there are folders made for ‘vst’/‘vst3’ & all sorts of ones… When downloading everything else to the ‘D:’, will it remake those folders on that drive?.. Also, when you say add a ‘500gb ssd’ just for windows; do you mean add a 3rd drive? My PC is brand-new with everything installed on the ‘C’, but that’s only: ‘Windows’, ‘UR242 Interface’, and what came with it (DSP, e-Lisence Control Center…), and ‘Cubase 13 Pro’ and what came w/ it (Download Manager, Library Manager etc)
Either 3rd drive or partition windows drive and split in half, if you are using the computer for music you don’t need more than 500G for windows because you will be moving the libraries (where most files are later added by windows) to another partition.
Vst files should all stay on the main C drive, only add the sample libraries to the second ssd, the library manager has a way to determine a default location where you can also move it to a sub folder of Documents. C13 libraries are not too big, leave the second ssd for larger libraries like Kontakt libraries if you are planning…
Thanks again for helping…
- Considering I already have installed"‘Windows’, ‘UR242 Interface’ & ‘Cubase Pro 13 App’ on the ‘C:’; can I still partition the drive?
- If I set it up as 500gb/500gb, would I move the ‘UR242’ & ‘Cubase Pro 13’ to the second half or something?
- Are “Content Sets” considered ‘Sample Libraries’?
- Yes, in windows management there is Disk Management, find drive C on the bottom section, right click on the big part and choose Shrink volume.
- No, in the new partition create 4 folders called Documents, Downloads, videos, music and pictures, then move the original library folders to this location by right clicking (on documents for example) then properties, location, move then find the new folder.
3.yes they are libraries but they are not too large, better leaving them in their default place.
From now on everytime you download a file or save a document it will always be saved in the second partition. In the future if you add a third ssd you can move them there and go back and expand the C drive.
Thanks again for all the help. When I downloaded/installed everything ‘Cubase 13 Pro’ included, which was a ton, I did it all on the suggested location ‘C:’. It was b/c I was advised to do it there, then move what’s needed afterwards using the ‘Library Mangager’. Though an extra-step, this may make it easier if I run into issues now or later… My second drive (‘D:’) is completely empty and setup for “sounds/samples”, “projects” etc… With that being said do you still think I should keep all the “sounds/content” on the main drive? (I was going to keep just the VST’s, Instruments & Apps on the ‘C:’ and everything else on my ‘D:’
I’m worried b/c I’ve been advised to not move “Vst Presets”… Besides the App (Cubase) & the 8 instruments (ex.‘Groove Agent’); everything else is “content sets”, which are/include presets. So, should I just give up and leave everything on the ‘C:’ drive??? Some are named the instrument:content set (ex. ‘Groove Agent- Content’) & some are just named (ex. "Analog Techno-Content)… Leave it all on ‘C’? or what to move? PLease help (I can just leave everything Steinberg related on my ‘C:’ and do the optimal file organization w/ all my 3rd party purchases if that would be smart?)
I may have discovered my own answer, if anyone agrees please let me know asap. I think the “Library Manager” ONLY contains “Content” and not actual ‘VSTi’s’; so I can safely and optimally move it all to my second SSD (D:). Here’s what I found on the ‘Steinberg’ site:
“The Steinberg Library Manager is a tool that allows you to manage additional content, for example, moving or deleting HALion and Groove Agent sound libraries. It is being installed along with many current Steinberg programs.”
