Hi all. I have tried to research this issue. I have Cubase pro 13 (just upgraded Sept 24, 2024), Wndows 11, 13th Gen i7. The problem I have while watching tutorials or anything on the web, when I click on Cubase, the sound of the web browser goes away. If I don’t stop whatever I am watching, prior to clicking on Cubase, when I try to resume watching, sound never returns, I have to refresh the page then the sound starts again. I have updated the Realtek device drivers, today…still the same issue. If i bring up Reaper, I can work on the project and still hear the tutorial I am watching.
Do I need to get a actual Audio box? Install another sound card? Any assistance will be greatly appreciated
Hi and welcome to the forum,
You can use ASIO4ALL. Also try to explore the Studio > Studio Setup > Audio System > Release Driver when Application is in Background, please.
Thank you so much for the reply. I have tried the release Driver part, to no avail. I was a little leery on installing ASIO4ALL, but I will give it a go.
ASIO4all does not allow multiple programs access to the sound driver at once so isn’t going to help.
Have you unticked the box in windows audio settings that says allow applications to take exclusive control of this device?
You might also need to make sure both Cubase and Windows sound are set to the same sample rate…multi client access to built in audio cards with ASIO is a bit hit or miss though so no guarantee it will work.
An interface with a proper ASIO driver is usually ok as it works with ASIO for Cubase but uses Windows Audio for system audio.
Thank you for the reply. I was still researching a solution before installing ASIO4all. I will go check the windows audio settings right now.
That was it! I went to sound. Right clicked on the device. Unchecked the boxes that state: Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device. and: Give exclusive mode applications priority. Went to a youtube, let it run, then clicked in Cubase and the sound is still playing! Thank you! Now I think I have to close Cubase and reopen, now the sound doesn’t work on it…smh. I’ll figure out this rabbit hole eventually.
One more thing I looked at. I wondered why Reaper would play thru and notice it has a kind of ‘chain’ : ASIO/MMCSS Pro Audio/Time critical (whatever that is). So of course I went to Regedit to see what I could do with maybe MMCSS Pro Audio…and stopped there. I will try again tomorrow, after that I’ll just deal with stopping videos go to Cubase then resume video, tedious but oh well.
