Cubase Pro 13 Startup Plays automatically

Cubase Pro 13.0.41. Start up Cubase. Hub appears. Whichever project / template I select, when the Cubase track window opens, it’s always playing. I have to hit stop. Am I missing a setting somewhere where I can disable this? It didn’t happen with Cubase 12.

Hi,

Could you try in the Cubase Safe Start Mode [Disable preferences], please?

Well spotted Martin. Doing that means that when a project is opened it doesn’t play automatically. Is it best to reinstall Cubase to solve this?

Hi,

No, Cubase reinstalling doesn’t help.

From the Safe Start Mode dialog, you can Delete the Preferences, to make the changes permanent.

This will delete the defeaults.xml file from the preferences folder. So for example, your Key Commands remain.

Thanks. That’s solved it. Should have known in the first place. Thanks for your help.

Well the problem returned. However I have identified this as being related to Cubase 12 projects and templates. If I re-save a template in Cubase 13. Then open it to start a project, everything is fine. However open a Cubase 12 project or template and I get the automatic playback issue.

It’s not a big deal for me as I only have a few templates to re-save.

Hi,

Weird. I have to say, I have never seen this. Even if I Save and Close project while playback, it doesn’t playback once I reopen it.

Well no-one else has mentioned this so I guess it’s a weird issue relating to my pc and software. Thanks for your help Martin.

Well I have now discovered it seems to be related to how I select a project in the Cubase hub.

The problem recurred but I noticed it wasn’t consistent. Sometimes when I opened a project it would open normally, others playback would be happening.

It seems if I hit enter on my keyboard to open a project that’s when the automatic playback starts. If I select project with the mouse to open it, everything is fine.

Hi,

Interesting. But I cannot reproduce this behavkour here on my side. Are you on Mac or Windows, please?

Isn’t the Enter (or the Return) key assigned to Strt playback on your side by any chance?

Windows 11 and yes it is!

Hi,

By default, the Enter key is assigned to Play. So it looks like Steinberg Hub passes it to Cubase.

Yes it’s new behaviour. That didn’t happen in Cubase 12. Anyway probably time to finish this thread. I now know what’s going on and how to avoid unwatned playback. Thanks.
