In the past, when I updated from older versions like 11 to 12 and 12 to 13, I just installed the update. If I recall the newest update just copies the preferences from the older version. I’ve see some posts in the past where the suggested work around is to trash the preferences and let Cubase recreate them.
I don’t recall if during the update to a newer version, 13 to 14 in this case, if there is an option to import the preferences or just create a new default preferences.
I’m trying to determine if it is an option to create default preferences in Pro 14 and then make changes and hopefully avoid some related issues and not have the versions overwrite each other by accident if I use both Pro 13 and 14.
Thanks for any suggestions.
Hi,
If you start Cubase for the 1st time, it merges the preferences 2 major versions down. In case of Cubase 14, it’s merge from Cubase 13 and 12. If you want to get the factory setting in Cubase 14, rename/remove Cubase 13 and 12 preferences folders.
@Martin.Jirsak - Perfect! I will be installing Pro 14 this weekend. Thank you!
I have found out that when the Defaults.xml file is – automatically – imported from an anterior version, it is kept the same until you actually modify something in Preferences and click Apply.
Indeed I was curious when I noticed that the two files from C12 and C14 folders were the same size, and I used a compare tool to check if anything had changed.
Only when I tweaked something and hit apply, the file got updated with all the new preferences and cleanup that was made for C14.
That’s the reason why people are experiencing many issues and crashes when using the newly installed version right away. The program is looking for lines of text that do not exist in the file, it then freezes or crash or exhibit various issues like UI glitches or things not working properly.
I got 2 crashes and 1 error/freeze during the first 5 minutes after installing the new version, and everything got sorted out the moment I tweaked and applied the preferences.
I just had to rebuild my Phones & Monitor outs in the Control Room YET AGAIN, because everything was silent.
Steinberg: please, please, please for the love of god focus on making sure that any template carried over from 13 or older to 14 actually works.
I know these updates are probably hard to test, but you really do need to increase the size of your QA team or your methods or both. This is such a drag.
Hi,
Could you attach the *.dmp files, please?
Here are the *.dmp files Martin :
Cubase 14.0.5 64bit2024.11.10 3.37.58.570.dmp (1.3 MB)
Cubase 14.0.5 64bit 2024.11.10 3.19.38.633-freezedump.dmp (1.3 MB)
Interesting, as I did not have such a glitch… My Control room settings transferred normal from 13 to 14 with no issues…
Hi,
Reported to Steinberg. But I found more interesting the investigation part of your post, which I also reported to Steinberg. Thank you!
Control Room in Cubase 13: All works great.
Control Room in Cubase 14: No Sound! I copied all settings from 13…but 14 doesn’t work.
Steinberg, please fix this asap! Thanks
