Cubase Pro 14.0.20: MIDI input channel bug

When opening a project, the MIDI input channel on tracks is not functioning properly. When enabling monitoring on a track, all incoming channels are passed through instead of just the desired channel. Manually setting the desired input channel again fixes it, but only for the duration of the session. For reference in preferences, MIDI audition through inserts is on.

Hi,

Do I understand you right, when you Save and reopen the project, the MIDI Input Channel is visually set to the dedicated MIDI Channel, but functionally, it’s set to Any.

Hi there - yes that is correct.

Hi,

It works on my side. I made a project with 3 MIDI Tracks. I set the MIDI Input Channel ike this:

  • 2
  • 1
  • Any

I enabled Record on all 3 MIDI Tracks. I played my MIDI Keyboard, which sends the MIDI data over MIDI Channel 1.

  • Only MIDI Tracks 2 (Ch 1) and 3 (Ch Any) were receiving the MIDI data.

I saved the project, reopened, Record Enabled all 3 MIDI Tracks and played my MIDI Keyboard. The result was exactly the same:

  • Only MIDI Tracks 2 (Ch 1) and 3 (Ch Any) were receiving the MIDI data.

Many thanks for testing. To add: the issue on my side occurs specifically with Instrument tracks, i.e. not MIDI tracks. Also to note, the projects I work in were created in C14 just prior to updating to 14.0.20 version. Cheers

Just to confirm: I tested again and the effect is easily reproducible.

  • create a new empty project in C14.0.20
  • add an instrument track and set MIDI input channel to 2
  • save and re-open the project
  • visually, track input is set to channel 2 but it lets through any channel.

So it seems there’s a snag in initialization of Instrument tracks when opening a project.
Hope this helps.

Hi,

I can confirm this behaviour with the Instrument Track.

Reported to Steinberg. Thank you.

Thanks, keep up the good work :+1:

Happens on all my projects past and current. If I create new templates also reverts midi channels. I’m on windows machines all up to date. Unusable.

This is an enormous problem for me.

Steinberg, once again: TEST YOUR SOFTWARE PROPERLY AND THOROUGHLY BEFORE RELEASING IT.

I could be reporting more bugs like MIDI Remote failing to create new pages unless I name them something simple like “a” and then rename them here, but I’ve already complained about that in some other thread. Whoops.

Your testing regime just is not sufficient. Stop worrying about cramming features out the door and focus on quality for a spell. Won’t you?

Hi,

The MIDI Input Channel bug has been reported to Steinberg already.

Please, don’t hijack one thread with another issue. Make a new thread with proper description. Thank you.
