Cubase Pro 14 - CONTROL ROOM went silent

This is such a mystery… I was in the middle of a project and my control room goes silent, just like that. Poof. Dead.
I didn’t touch any studio or system settings, I was in the project window only, editing and moving clips around and suddenly no more sound.
The project keeps on working and moving but no signal is sent to my audient ID4 audio interface anymore.
When I change from control room to main outs as my sound source, I have sound as always. Right now, my main stereo outs have no bus assigned.
I reassigned outputs to control room outs endless times, no change.
The output names are in RED now (!), probably indicating they’re not available. Never seen that before.
It’s not project related, won’t work in any projects.
I have no plugins on my control room.
And it’s only in Cubase Pro 14.
In Cubase Pro 11, for instance, control room works just fine.
I have the latest drivers for my audient interface installed and latest
Windows 11 update.
I badly need the control rooms features, using the main outs won’t do it.
I read similar threads here on that topic, but none seem to help.

I’d really appreciate your help.

I would try re-create a Stereo Out bus in your Audio Connections > Outputs panel (the second one) and set it as Not Connected, then relaunch Cubase, as I’m wondering if the lack of it doesn’t go in the way (it should be already present, IMO)…

Hi - this caught me out the other day too… Not at my machine, but something to check which I didn’t know about before… See here:-

Go to the header ‘Main’ - look at extreme right, just beyond the word ‘stereo’. There’s a button there to click that enables/disables the ControlRoom.

I thought I’d properly checked everywhere, making sure outputs were assigned/active and the CR was ‘enabled’; but turns out, somehow, this got disabled… Well, I stopped sweating after finding that teeny tiny little button (by accident.!), running the trauma in my mind of maybe reinstalling everything to fix this, etc, etc…

My machine is old (very old) but thankfully still getting work done. This year (finally) is upgrade year.! Goodness knows what would’ve got completely ‘upset’ at having a full reinstall thrown at it…

Anyway, worked for me… maybe it helps you too…

Holy cow, thanks, I thought I was having a stroke.

Must have touched that tiny button with an erratic movement or while nervously searching for my microscopic mouse cursor arrow on my 4K screens.
I had no idea that CR de-activate button existed and I’m with Cubase since when it was MIDI only.

I feel a lot better now, guess I can send the ambulance team home then.
