Cubase Pro: maximum 8 VSTs limit - what does it mean?

I am considering the purchase of Cubase but I have concerns about the VSTs limitation - 2 for LE and AI, 3 for Elements and 8 for Artist and Pro.

What does it mean exactly?

I am composing big band music and I need at lease 15 opened VSTs. That is: 13 SWAM VSTs from Audio Modeling: (4 trumpets, 4 trombones and 5 saxophones) and 1 or 2 instances of SampleTank for the rest of the instruments.

How it is not possible to have more than 8 VSTs opened in Cubase Pro/Artist?

Nothing to do with any kind of limitation : actually, it’s just the amount of VSTis bundled with Cubase. By memory :

  • Halion Sonic SE
  • Groove Agent SE
  • Retrologue
  • Padshop
  • Mystic
  • Spector
  • Prologue
  • Loopmash
