Cubase SX Songs

I reset my computer recently and found a veritable Fundgrube of SX songs. I have tried to open these but failed. Is there any way of opening these in Cubase Pro 13, 14 or 15? Thanks

If they are .cpr project files created with Cubase SX, they should open directly in any current version of Cubase.

Do you know the exact version of Cubase SX that created them?

Trying to revisit bangers from 20 years ago ?! :smiley:

Aside from the conversion, a good practise to keep our current work future-proof is to :

  • export our project file as different formats (DAWproject, MIDI, etc..)
  • export audio stems
  • save instrument presets in a subfolder
  • export a full project screenshot
    There is probably more, but those things can help when revisiting a project a couple of years later just to find out something is not loading as anticipated ..

However…I am running Cubase Pro 15

The old files were created in Cubase SX to Cubase SX 3 and they are .ALL files.

Being a bit of a saddo, I still have EVERYTHING I ever owned musically.

I tried installing Cubase SX and Cubase SX 3 from the original discs on a Win 10 gaming Laptop and also on my old Win 7 laptop. I have the original blue dongle which had all my licences up to Cubase 5.

No joy installing or opening anything!

Thanks again, but I guess I will just have to re record everything as I have reached the end of my tether!

I’m afraid that can’t be, because the .ALL format was not the native file format of the SX series, and SX could not save in that format. It can however import .ALL and can therefore be used to convert to .cpr, which in turn can be loaded directly by Cubase Pro 15. Please read the link that @Buer gave you above.

Your files would have been created on something like Cubase VST 5 (or older) and, seeing as you still have the dongle, it’s just a matter of getting it to work on your hardware with the correct drivers, installing Cubase SX3 and converting.

[EDIT:] Apologies, I just re-read this bit:

If the dongle does not have a Cubase SX3 license on it, you will not be able to run Cubase SX3.

I have the original Cubase SX 3.1 as an installer file. It’s not on my dongle but it runs fine anyway. It’s not a crack.

Now all I have to do is finish some of them!

You could also consider opening up some of them to become collaborative projects.
Organize having different people pick different parts to record, and you’d mix it all in.
Just an idea !
