Cubase VST Problem

I have a really unusual issue with Cubase 14 and VST’s on an M1 Mac Studio with 64Gb.

I have tried starting Cubase with preferences disable and all third party extensions disabled and the problem still persists, otherwise I’d just rash the prefs. Updating to 14.30 the problem remains.

Let’s say I start Cubase up with the preferences disabled. and third party plugins disabled. The only VST available is Halion Sonic. When I create an instrument, the F4 key on the Halion interface is stuck down on loading. Clicking the key on the Halion interface releases it however. (I have removed all controller keyboards - so it’s not a faulty keyboard attached)

If I then load a patch into position 1 in Halion, it won’t play. Even when I trigger it by clicking on the keyboard on the interface, there is no sound. However if I load a sound in position 2 or higher, it will sound absolutely fine.

If I add another track of Halion Sonic I have the same thing, but the interesting thing is that when I switch the instrument track by clicking on it, when it goes to the other instance of Halion, the F4 key is stuck down again.

If I allow third party plugins, and say I load Korg MultiPoly Native Synth it doesn’t sound and the F4 key is down again. However if I change the patch to a different one I will get sound. However, If I click on a different instrument track, and then re click on the Multi Poly one, there is no sound again, at least until I change or reload the patch.

I’d just re-install the lot, but if the preferences are cleared and third party plugins are disabled then a re-install seems a waste of time.

I’d really appredciate any help or suggestions.

Any Generic Remote/MIDI Remote definition still at play ? I would deactivate any of theses, if the case. This, for troubleshooting purpose.

After this, I’m unable to get a rational idea about what could happen, following the description of Halion Sonic bahavior on your setup, beside something going in the way such as a faulty MIDI remote controller definition or a kind of MIDI channel mismatch.

That was it !

I removed a Midi Remote Control Surface that I had for a Elgato Streamdeck . I had previously unplugged the StreamDeck, but the Midi remote was not deactivated.

Now I have removed it and all is well.

Thank you so much !
