Cubase VST project files

Just fucked up a whole day trying to load some older projects in Artist 7, last update.
The thing is:

  1. all files do not load, have to install another cubase??? Already have three instalations, and now, one more? COme on… why not a simple update like the one fro import from Cubasis iPad to solve this?
  2. Used to work those files on SW1000XG in XP, of course. Now I HAVE TO HAVE two different versions of Windows (extra costs!!!) to gain the opportunity to use those sounds in projects. 43 and 64 bit - which won’t ever have available drivers??? - why not? I honestly paid for, so I DO expect an honest update for the hardware, including 64 bit drivers.
SO I used the other HDD with 32 bit Artist 7, but… BLUE SCREENS and FREEZINGS all over whrn tried to change the usual UA-4FX USB driver to SW1000XG driver. Which previously worked perfectly in Cubase 5 LE or 4AI.
Bo, I really do need to update those projects, I would gladly love to have one of those programmers, here in my studio, to solve this poop. I’ve restarted more than 15 times thge computer, in vain. Everytime something is fucked up.
Is there for real, an honest way to help us doing our job, instead of getting upset with newer and newer versions that kills our nerves? I would love to deliver this project in time, but… it seems someone at Yamaha - Steinberg does not agree with me. No way to use older files with new hardware. Everytime have to re-do the whole work again. And again. And again. Does this sound as evolution? Not for me…
At the moment I am completely stuck in between drivers: change it to something that worked, and you’rew out of order. STILL WAITING FOR AN HONEST SOLUTION: SW1000XG…???
  1. Is there any message? Why is it not possible to load it?

  2. I’m afraid, this is problem of all old devices. There is no Windows 7 driver of your hardware. Lots of old hardware doesn’t have driver for Windows 7. If you have no driver, you can’t work with it. This is not problem of Cuabse.

  1. No message, just can not load .arr and .all files. Just like they don’t belong to Steinberg… I really disagree and NEVER install another cubase installation just to be able to load old projects… Where is the compatibility?
  2. But it worked!!! in the same OS with Cubase 5LE or AI4. Stopped working - offering instead a big fat CRASH - with version7. Alone under 32 bit, but WORKED! It seems to me like a Cubase issue, concerning programming and so on… I begin to regret my Steinberg - Yamaha investments. And I payed a lot during years for this companys…

I have no answer for you but I can see your frustrated.
Walk away and go back with a clear head later on.
Lifes to short to be angry…and breathe…ahhhhh

Why not just continue to work on the older projects in Cubase 5 LE or AI4…? You’ve experimented enough, and its failed. Move on. The world is a bad place. Make your life easier; feel happier and start only new projects in C7 etc…?

  1. I see. Cubase SX3 was the last one, where you can import .all and .arr files. Download this Cubase SX3, import all your very old files here, save them as new .cpr, and open them in Cubase 7.

  2. Thinks are changing. Sometimes we have to leave something old, and move on forwarde without these old thinks to make something new.

im pretty sure you won’t be able to use sx3 as 5LE and 4Al are not full licences

But he already just said in his answer above, that “…I really disagree and NEVER install another cubase installation just to be able to load old projects…”

OK, if he disagree, there is no another solution, sorry.

It’s weird, I posted a reply last night, explaining why I felt he was barking up the wrong tree and now, my post is gone?

I also talked about SX3 (so I gave him options to consider).

Did I do something bad or something ? :S Weird!

Hi,
the solution is here:

Helge

Hi,

Exactly, as we wrote. You have to install Cubase SX/SL/SE 3. There is no other option.

Hello,

I realise the old VST 32 is not compatible with C7 and have read a few responses here about reinstalling SX3 to convert the .all project file.

But, rather than reinstall SX3, does anyone know of a simple convertor program?

Thanks

Aloha w,

I have been looking into this for a couple of years now.

First going to C5 then to C6 and now to C7.

SX3 is the only thing I have found to do this.

Perhaps someones else know another way
and will chime in.

Good luck
{‘-’}

it’s not exactly what you quoted is it ?

Curteye - I notice SX3 is no longer openable with OSX.8? At least, there is a No Entry sign on it in the dock…

And what about driver that crashes on 7 Artist, but didn’t in LE5 or in 6? I mean working with the same hardware that previously worked (only in 32 bit, indeed (pitty me…)

Yes, I know about the SX3, but, sorry, NO MORE SPACE ON HDD. Now sould I change my HDD just to have the opportunity to load old projects? Come on… I have two WINDOWS on HDD because of no 64 bit drivers, and now… another version of cubase? Why not the whole versions you ever sold? You want me to become yout museum??? I started with the one an ATARI, and still have that one, I think…
Why not a simple add-on to add this possibility to latest updates, the next number 2 update? Like the update to be able to load Cubasis iOs projects? (As you can see I bought that too… again, pitty me…)
And thank you, I might have another way of solving it. I just began to learn LOGIC!!!

Indeed there is no officially supported SW1000XG driver for Windows 7, so there could be anything going on which is beyond Cubase Artist 7.

Here is my constructive workaround suggestion:

1) Loading .all and .arr Cubase VST Project files
You have to install Cubase SL 3 (it is compatible with your Artist 7 license). This is now news for Cubase 7 series, the same is valid for Cubase 4, 5 and 6.

2) Working with your SW1000XG card
Convert the MIDI tracks feeding the SW1000XG instrument sounds to audio tracks by recording the audio output of the SW1000XG card for each MIDI track. Then open the project in Cubase Artist 7 using the UA-4FX Audio I/O. I also suggest replacing as much instrument sounds from the SW1000XG as possible with HALion Sonic SE sounds. In case this is not possible, go with the audio track you created in LE5.

I hope this helps.

Best,
Helge

The things is: I must admit I really appreciate your fast reply, which still make me think you respect your customers. Thank you very much.
And everything else do not help me pass over my problems at all…
I can not use SW1000XG out to UA-4FX In, it simple does not work. I get no sound at all, because driver problems in 7 Artist. That’s it! No sound from soundcard, because drivers out of order…
I wiped out all other Cubase installation, needing space for another OS in 32 bit. So no way to get back, unless I will find another available computer, and so on, and so on… I won’t change my HDD because of that. At least, my primary DAW might change…
Some of the tracks might worl perfectly with Halion, other… no way, I entered deep into soundprogramming with XGWorks, so… lost forever! I have to redo the whole work. And I will, because my client needs that. (By-the-way… I was also a MIDI programmer for Cubase Magasine, speaking of clients…)
Yamaha and Steinberg is not the same team at the moment? Why can’t those guys be convinced to offer such an expected update for SW1000XG users? Somehow, the ball is in YOUR yard, at the moment…
I will look for an old PC to install an older XP on it, especially for SW1000XG. What version of Cubase should I run on it? I payd a lot of money for that soundcard, and still am very fond and proud of it. I still want to protect my investment and use it, I can’t afford to throw money, like Yamaha suggested… (taken out from the behaviour) and still, there is no better soundcard - concerning MIDI - than SW1000XG, at the moment. Have a look on facebook at XG-Central… still remains unbeatable.
I know that this versions of Cubase are based on a different engine - the Nunendo, so I admit they won’t load ARR and ALL. But still, it was not me that I invented those type of files, it’s you who imposed them to us, and then run away? Would you trust such an offer? Think twice…
I still hope and WAIT for a simpler update (like Cubasis importer) for those files, and loooong for 64 drivers - SW1000XG. It’s obvious that Steinberg Team have to that for the credibility in front of thousands of clients.

Please check the Manual of the SW1000XG card here on page 26

“SW1000 #2 WAVE IN” is the wave input device for all sound heard using the SW1000XG sound card (the mixture of A/D input, XGworks wave tracks, and the sound from the AWM2 tone generator on the sound card)."

So you don’t have to connect the SW1000XG to the UA-4FX card via analog cables. Instead you:

  1. Fire up Cubase LE5
  2. Arm an audio track, set the Input to “W1000 #2 WAVE IN”
  3. Solo an individual MIDI track or all MIDI tracks routed to the SW1000XG
  4. Record

As you wrote the card is working fine with Cubase LE 5 under Windows 7 x86, there should be no problem with starting Cubase LE 5.

Yamaha and Steinberg is not the same team at the moment? Why can’t those guys be convinced to offer such an expected update for SW1000XG users? Somehow, the ball is in YOUR yard, at the moment…

This card is from 1998… it is almost 15 years old. And because the card is not officially supported under Windows 7, I think you have a lot of luck that it is working at all (with Cubase LE5 from what you wrote).

I know that this versions of Cubase are based on a different engine - the Nunendo, so I admit they won’t load ARR and ALL. But still, it was not me that I invented those type of files, it’s you who imposed them to us, and then run away? Would you trust such an offer? Think twice…
I still hope and WAIT for a simpler update (like Cubasis importer) for those files

There won’t be a simpler importer, so the only solution for importing .all files from Cubase VST, is the one described in the sticky thread: import them into Cubase SL 3.

… and loooong for 64 drivers - SW1000XG. It’s obvious that Steinberg Team have to that for the credibility in front of thousands of clients.

Steinberg has nothing to do with drivers for a Yamaha SW1000XG card, but be assured there won’t be any driver updates for a 15 year old soundcard.

I hope this helps.

Helge
