It’s really shame, that though it’s a music production mobile DAW, the libraries are really bad. Even when i want to shop for the instruments library, there is nothing excluding effects plugins. Neither i can tweek and modify the instruments tone. On the other hand i am using Garage Band and Staffpad, one of them is free and the other one i had to purchase. Trust me the instruments library that they are providing, is really worthy. Just try to think, you are travelling and your client want some musical outline at that very moment. If i try to create it on cubasis, it’s definitely ruining my mood and my work. Even Cubase 12 pro don’t have good libraries with proper articulations if i try to create it on laptop. Steinberg have loads of respect for their revolutionary work but need to focus on instruments library, they are not worthy enough for music production.
It’s done differently on iPads than on a PC.
The trick is you can route audio between Apps on your iPad.
I use Cubasis with dozens of instruments from SampleTank, Korg iM1, Galileo B3, Moog, and soon even Pianotech I hope…
Google “inter-app” for Cubasis.
Screen capture from my Cubasis:
Thank you Y-D for the information, what i intend to say is that, Firstly why cubasis and cubase don’t have proper plugin support itself. Hovering through mediators like “inter-app” is okay but it could have been far better if those plugins or the DAW itself had those option where i don’t need to hover.
Secondly the tonality of plugins inside Cubasis and Cubase with proper articulations that is mostly used is missing year after year. They can improve halion sonic and make it use for Cubase, Cubasis and also for Dorico that i didn’t mentioned.
Or load all those AUv3 apps up in AUM along with Cubasis in AUM and output to Cubasis. I like that even better than messing with the older Inter-App method, which even Apple seems to be abandoning in favor of AUv3 apps.
Thank you Johne1.
Good point Johne1.
I used Audiobus before inter-app, but did not feel the need yet to invest time+$ in auv3 for my lite usage.
Agreed Cubase offers much better instruments and integration than Cubasis, but it’s like 10x more expensive too.
But I’m adding my vote to Utsav_Mondal’s that Steinberg could invest more in Cubasis and make a “Pro” version (for twice its current price) and add a seamless integration of all 3rd party plugins (like AUM does), plus porting to iOS some of their better Cubase VSTs.
I wonder if/when Apple will bring MacOS to the iPad… bringing Cubase to iPad at the same time… one can dream out loud a bit…
Apple’s already brought us Logic Pro for iPad. I was really hoping that would give Steinberg a push to up their game. I expect we’ll be seeing more and more apps ported from Mac to iPad, now that the iPad is using the same Apple M-series SOCs.
Hi @Utsav_Mondal,
Thanks for your message!
Cubasis provides full Audio Unit, Inter-App Audio and Audiobus 3 support, which allows you to use 3rd party instruments and effects plug-ins.
Nevertheless we will do our best to improve the features of Cubasis on a constant basis, including the content of the app.
Best,
Lars
The entire iOS recording software experience leaves much to be desired. It is mediocre at best. The plugins are mostly very poor. The stock sounds in Cubasis are almost a joke. I do like the drum machines, though. The effects are so-so.
Inter-app is a nightmare… good luck if you expect your projects to open correctly and not to lose your work. AUv3 should be the standard for all apps.
For me, recording audio into Cubasis results in a frozen GUI, can’t press anything, can’t do anything. Then the resulting waveform is incorrect, so I can’t make edits to it since it doesn’t match what is playing at the moment. This is on a $1300 iPad from 2020. This shouldn’t be happening… but yeah, iOS music production stalled in 2010 and hasn’t really done much since.
@LSlowak thank you for responding, I don’t need third party instruments unless i have some specific requirement, if cubasis can support basic requirement of the composers by providing good quality Instruments with their articulations. This is a very basic requirement of every composer.
Hi @Jimmy_two_times,
Thanks for your message.

Apple introduced Audio Unit several years ago which clearly can be seen as their successor of Inter-App Audio. When using Inter-App Audio plug-ins it can help to launch the Stand Alone app first, before launching Cubasis.
Nevertheless Audio Unit is the best and unmatched option, and we strongly suggest to our users to get in touch with the app vendors asking them for AU versions of their IAA plug-ins (if not available), to make them aware about the demand.

This shouldn’t be the case definitely. Are you able to describe us with more info regarding the freeze, and/or the steps leading to the problem? In addition, are you able to share the crash report with me?
Best wishes,
Lars
We do our best to improve Cubasis with every new update, and hope to do so in regards to the content too.
The next update is already in the making but might take some time still until being ready to go live.
Best,
Lars
@Y-D I think it’s more than just a matter of hardware. For constant, or almost constant online use and exposure, I’m betting that keeping iOS secure online is a lot easier than keeping Mac OS X secure online, since it’s just modified BSD (Berkley UNIX) and I just think there’s a lot more exposure to being hacked there than in the iOS framework. (Okay, that was redundant, but you get my point.)
