Custom bar numbering

I’m looking for a way to apply my/my teams’ convention of bar numbering. At each rehearsal mark, I need bar numbering to start over at one, and then be prefixed by the most recent rehearsal mark.

For example, bars will be numbered normally until the first rehearsal mark (A), then the first bar of A will be called A1, the second bar of A is A2, and so on until letter B, when the sequence continues as B1, B2, B3, etc. The only prefixing option I’ve found so far applies to the rehearsal marks themselves, but I need to prefix each bar number in a given region with a number.

This is a very useful convention for me, and if I have to manually type “normal” text under each and every measure, I will do so, but I’m hoping there’s a better way akin to Finale’s Measure Number Regions that will save me some time.

One possible solution is to change the sequence type for rehearsal marks to bar numbers, change the paragraph style for rehearsal marks to look like bar numbers, and add a rehearsal mark to every bar. Create a new paragraph style that looks like rehearsal marks including the border and use system-attached text with collision avoidance disabled in place of rehearsal marks. Then insert a bar number change at each fake rehearsal mark to change the bar number to one and hide it. Finally, select the real rehearsal marks from A up to but not including B and give them the prefix A, and so on:

@johnkprice Thanks, this looks basically like what I’m looking for! I’m curious if there’s a setting to move the “real” rehearsal marks (my bar numbers) to be centered on each bar, or even below each bar, but since they’re just regular marks hopefully the manual will provide some insight. Thanks again!
