Custom Scripting Support for Advanced Batch Operations

I’d like to propose adding custom scripting functionality to Nuendo to enhance workflow automation capabilities.

While Nuendo already offers excellent customization options including the Logical Editor and various macro functions, I frequently encounter batch processing scenarios that can’t be efficiently addressed with current tools. A perfect example is aligning thousands of events by their end points - a task that becomes incredibly time-consuming with existing methods.

These specialized operations may not be everyday necessities, but they’re exactly the kind of tasks that can make or break a deadline when they do arise. The reality is that no software developer can anticipate every possible workflow requirement users might have, especially in professional audio post-production where projects vary dramatically.

Custom scripting would bridge this gap perfectly. With AI assistance now readily available, writing simple automation scripts is no longer limited to dedicated programmers. Even basic scripting knowledge can unlock significant workflow optimizations that would save hours on large projects.

I envision this feature allowing users to:

  • Create custom batch processing operations for events and clips

  • Automate repetitive editing tasks across multiple tracks

  • Build specialized tools for unique project requirements

  • Share community-developed scripts for common workflows

This wouldn’t replace Nuendo’s existing automation tools but would complement them, providing a safety net for those edge cases where standard operations fall short. The investment in scripting infrastructure would pay dividends by essentially crowdsourcing workflow solutions through the user community.

Has anyone else encountered similar limitations? Would scripting support improve your workflow efficiency?

Looking forward to hearing thoughts from both users and the development team.
