Customizing divisi group labels in parts vs. score

Hello — new to the forum, so apologies in advance for any faux pas regarding posting rules/customs/formatting/etc.

Fairly new to Dorico and working on my first large orchestral score. I’ve made use of the divisi group labels to get the string staff labels the way I wanted in the full score [see below].

However, I’d like to be able to customize these labels within the parts, as needed. Specifically, when a string part is split into multiple staves, I typically include a staff label in the first system it occurs, to clarify the division (i.e. “div. a 2”, “2 soli”, etc.).

Currently, it is showing as the same label in the score — “Vln I (div. a 4)” — but I’d like it to just say “div. a 4”.

Looking for solutions for how to manage this, ideally with as little manual work as possible since this will be occurring frequently within all string parts.

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum, @lritz!

It’s difficult to say without more details about the setup, but I was able to get this, for example, by tweaking the Divisi Group’s Full Name and Abbreviated Name.

I set Vln 1 (div. a 3 or 4) as the Abbreviated Name, and (div. a 3 or 4) as the Full Name, and then apply the Full Name (with system breaks) in the part layout wherever I need it. It’s going to be complicated in the score if your violins are divided from the very first system.

Thanks so much, @charles_piano!

This looks like it’ll be the perfect workaround. For the first system, I can just fake it with a text frame in the parts — I’m just happy I don’t have to do text frames for ALL of them

Glad it works for you!

Actually, for the first system, assuming that the score displays the full names, you can just do the opposite (Violin I (div. a x) as Full Name, and (div. a x) as short name, and apply the short name in the part.)
