I created the arrow in galley view so I could easily select the space I wanted it to occupy and selected large arrow head, but there are two problems when I switch back to page view.
Only the final end point of the arrow has the large head; I want each iteration of what is essentially one long arrow to have the large head.
I want no staff and no rests to show up even though there’s an arrow there. Yes arrow, no staff with rests.
You can have a line on top of the cutaway. Set it to Inside staff in the Lines editor, or just flip it twice with f. Might be easiest to add the line first, then the cutaway.
I saw that you gave this answer also on someone else’s post and I was secretly (and probably wildly unrealistically) hoping that there was a toggle to show or hide lines by now. Guess not! In the meantime… Thanks for your help!
I am not having any success. I have set the line to be inside the staff, but when I do that, the cutaway is disabled and the staff shows back up (actually it doesn’t matter where the line is, as soon as I assign a line, the staff reappears). I tried making a big white line, but that did nothing. I am clearly missing something. Is it because I have cutaways globally set instead of manually set?
You might have to start the line slightly before the cutaway and end it slightly after. Not ideal, I admit. Set the smallest grid and cmd+alt+arrow to move it, and alt+shift+arrow to make it longer.
I just remembered, try using system attached lines instead with alt/opt, and move them down in Engrave mode 4 spaces with cmd+alt+down arrow. Then you don’t need manual cutaways. system attached lines might not work for you for other reasons, though.
Yes, it doesn’t work for the other reasons, those being that I will need arrows of varying lengths in other parts. This method produces a single arrow that hangs out at the top of the page where the piccolo will be, but has not entered yet.
This seems to work, however, there also seem to be limits on how much you can elongate it. I want to work with it some more before I consider it solved…
