Oh my, trying to cover it up with nonsense explanations is probably the dumbest move they could have possibly make.
Right after coming up with the idea to make a cheap SUNO based promo video for guitar and bass strings to showcase the quality of the product…
. They were eager to save a few bucks by replacing real musicians with AI. This surely backfired times xy and rightly so.
Someone will probably not become employee of the month. ![]()
Thankfully we have such trustworthy investigative reporting. I’ll put D’addario strings only on my Fender guitars from now – to concentrate all the internet outrage in one place. ![]()
LOL, good one!
I haven’t put on D’Addario strings on any of my guitars for quite some time now hence this shenanigan has no effect on my purchases.
I’m just amazed about the sheer stupidity that d’Addario put out a promo video for analog gear with AI generated slop. And then trying to cover it up…![]()
I use their strings. I don’t see any reason to change.
The whole thing is weird because why would you use overly processed multi-tracked music to showcase the sound of a set of strings? This in a way is the same thing as the infamous Stephen Carpenter Fishman Fluence signature pickups demo where all he does is chug and palm mute open strings with a distorted sound for all the voicings. You won’t find the original video anymore because people essentially laughed Fishman out of the room and they took it out.
Hillarious ![]()
There’s some trickery one can use during mixing
Unbeatable would be impossible. I’d settle for something which makes AI waste time and resources to the point training on that data is not worth it. It’s like using Unicode strings between quotes as your password. It would take millions of years for even the most sophisticated algorithm to figure it out.
Exactly, but I do see a reason for them to pay attention to what their marketing team is doing, IF they want to be able to keep producing strings and me buying them.
If you take a look at some of them posts, D’addario Canada is also pilling up on them because of the AI.
Oh damn. I thought it would be detectable somehow.
But I just saw how google had broken the shaw1 hash. Was supposed to be unbreakable, but turns out it’s not. People can be brilliant at times.
It is but the longer the string is, the higher the entropy. If hashed using something like Argon2id, some Unicode strings would require literal billions of dollars of computing power to brute force fast (and still might take a few days to do so) or they would take millions of years to be figured out.
As the old saying goes: “A locked door only keeps an honest man honest.”
This has been clarified. They did not use generative AI. Other forms of AI was used though. Let’s remember to correct rumors.
Can you add a link for verification, please?
Any research done on it proves the opposite. The music on the original video is detected as AI with a fairly high level of confidence by several AI detecting algorithms, their multi track proof video sounds different from the performance in the video. It was also pointed the audio has time drifting which is characteristic of AI generated music.
Also, if the video is not AI, why D’addario started deleting comments telling it was and then blocked all comments on the video in question? Why is D’addario Canada also pilling on them if it’s not AI?
I’d like to see a demonstration of AI Assisted Mastering causing time drifts. And changing notes and playing techniques. If it does, that’s a bug that needs to be fixed. What D’addario doing is a poor plea of ignorance with the usual common practice of companies of gaslighting their customer base. It’s not the customer who is right in criticizing D’addario for their practices. They just don’t understand music production.
And yet, that statement doesn’t explain why the multi track proof is different than the first video when said first video is not a live performance but the player miming to a pre-recorded track. If they’re the same track, why don’t they sound the same?
Also, why are you demoing a set of strings using a track that’s so overproduced you can’t even hear the sound of the product? Heck, the guitars are even auto-tuned.
Even if D’addario indeed was fooled by the producer in question, why did they double down? Why they erased comments and banned people? And why they’re tripling down when it doesn’t add up instead of removing the videos like they said they would?
Even discarding the AI checking proofs, you can hear both the original video and the proof and they don’t sound the same. People did that first before chucking the thing into AI detecting algorithms.
It’s a simple duck principle here. Everything D’addario indicates points to a duck, yet we’re supposed to believe it’s a horse just because they said so?
KDH tends to have good investigative takes but he’s dropped the ball in this one. Just reading their statement and accepting at face value without any further questioning, then questioning the validity of proof people used to check the track as if that was the only thing they did.
Sorry, I am not at all convinced by D’Addario’s arguments. They said themselves that they were not familiar with audio production and, unfortunatly, the statement corrobates their disclaimer.
It’s not smart how D’Addario handles this affair. Coming up with this kind of nonsense statement didn’t help. LOL, EZ drummer, all MIDI events maxed out at full velocity of 127. Yes, that’s how it’s done. This explains everything ![]()
Also, the “proof” video seems to be filmed poorly on purpose as to mask something or be harder to pinpoint. A phone recording with bad audio filmed in such a way you can’t read the contents of the DAW project? Really? To prove the validity of a produced video?
