I waited awhile to give those more wise than I am to reply to you first. Very nice to hear about your system. My ‘clearly clueless’ input is as follows:
Great start - did you get that idea from one of the DAW setup guides floating around this forum? They are a great reading.
I also noticed much better reliability when disabling the Network adapter…
One of the reasons to keep a DAW off the internet -
I was just producing at 192 buffers with my anti virus on and network adapter on and have had no problems at all…
Any reason you have Anti-Virus running on a DAW ? That may be a question to ask yourself and one of the main reasons to keep a DAW off the internet.
If you are limited to only ONE machine and need to also use it for life… You may want to set up a dual-boot PC (Basically install your SAME copy of windows TWICE on the same PC. Just use different locations (or even partitions) such as C:\windows and then d:\windows2 - many in this forum did that in the past when deciding between 64bit and 32bit windows or the old days when we were comparing Vista to Windows 7 before Steinberg officially supported Win7.
When you first power it on you CAN have the option to start in DAW mode - or in General use mode - each being seperate from the other.
Just one of MANY possibilities.
Your bootup screen just after the BIOS prompt will then look similar to this one I grabbed off the internetz
